On 11/28/18 at 11:25pm, a Hampton Street resident reported a burglary to their unlocked motor vehicle that was parked in their driveway.  A surveillance video showed an unknown male actor wearing a black and white coat, a blue baseball cap and a black backpack enter the vehicle.  Subsequently, the actor ran from the scene due to the activation of a motion light.

An investigation was initiated with several leads being checked.

On 12/5/18 at 8:20pm, a Hampton Street resident called the Newton Police and reported observing a subject attempt to enter a vehicle parked in a nearby driveway.  The subject’s clothing description matched the previous incident which had been reported in late November.  The actor again ran from the scene due to the presence of a motion light and was observed entering the rear of a Hampton Street residence.

Upon the arrival of the responding officers, they went to 20 Hampton Street and located a subject that was identified as James Blades, age 34, of Hampton Street who was wearing the same clothes as described by the complainant.

Blades was interviewed and arrested and charged with the following:

N.J.S. 2C:18-2a(1)  Burglary  (3rd Degree)

Blades was released pending an upcoming court appearance.

Investigating Officers:

Ptl. Russell Post, Ptl. Anthony Keiling and Sgt. Thomas Muller
