 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. - September 10, 2019  (REMINDER)

 

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to be held at the Sussex County Community College on Sept. 11th, 2019 at 6:00pm

 

A ceremony commemorating the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be held at Sussex County Community College in Newton on Wednesday September 11th at 6:00pm on the Connor Green directly in front of the 9/11 Memorial.

 

There will be a flyover by the NJ Army National Guard Aviation Unit who’s Helicopter will be on display after the ceremony. The Local NJ Army National Guard Recruiting Unit: SSG. Cynthia Bengel and SFC. Fernando Cova-Gomez will be presenting our Nation’s colors, honoring the colors, and retiring the colors. The Keynote speech will be given by John Fila, Engine Co 54 FDNY.

 

The Sussex County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Law Enforcement Honor Guard will be leading the ceremonial detail upon the commencement. Police Pipes and Drums of Morris County will bring their musical talents, as well as the Bugles Across America and local vocalists. The Boy Scouts of America will make their presence known by falling in formation upon the commencement, followed by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. VFW Post #5360 will be present and conduct a Gun Salute in Remembrance. Local Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS Personnel will be participating, giving a strong focus on the “laying of the wreaths”. First responders will take turns walking and posting their specific wreaths in front of the 9/11 Memorial.

 

The audience is filled with family and friends of the ceremonial participants as well as multiple members from the community including children and family from youth sporting clubs, students from the local community college, local high schools and elementary schools. The ceremony will commence in the evening this year to encourage more people to attend.

 

Residents and students are invited to attend the annual ceremony where each year we join with hundreds of other communities across America in remembrance and prayer.  We will gather and reflect upon the innocent lives of those that were killed, pay solemn tribute to those that heroically sacrificed their own lives to save thousands of others, and remember all those that helped in the rescue and recovery efforts that followed at Ground Zero.
