Hey,
I've just installed newsrob on my new nexus running ics. So far it
seems to be working. The only glitch i've noticed so far was a strange
sync animation icon. It seemed to be a lying cycle.

Just want to let you know :-)

Greetings,
Thorsteb

Hi Thorsten.

Maybe I will try to find out what it is, maybe not, because I plan an ICS version anyway that would use the android standard action bar and move the progress monitor back to the notification, where it belongs and where I originally put it. I had to remove it there before, because it crashed some devices, but I hope those devices, respectively their OS versions/HTC Sense version are now gone/fixed.

I still have no idea why ICS broke it, but I meanwhile found a work around and published a new version.

I published it for Android 3.1 and up. 3.1, because I also set a flag, so that it is compatible with Google TV, at least technically.

Could you please see if this version fixes the issue?

Could somebody with an Android device < 3.1 tell me if s/he still gots an update. It shouldn't be, but ...

Not seeing it on 2.3.7. NR 4.8.4 and 4.8.5 have no "what's new" text, though. I know you're probably thinking that the changes were too minor, but I still like to find something there. Always a bit irritating to open the app's page just to see the changes and then none are listed.

Never mind. Need to make a release for all SDKs anyway.

Yes, only major versions are announced with a blog post.

Sorry, wasn't talking about a blog post. I meant the "what's new" line that appears in the Market.

But I see it on the web market now. So either my device just wasn't picking it up, or you added it now, in which case: thanks. :)

The Android Market is strange when it comes down to timing/caching.

Anyway, fwiw I published the changes two minutes after the actual release. Maybe you fell just into this gap. But both happened before I posted here.

For the record: I also experienced this (silly me reported by email before searching here, sorry) and I wasn't particularly bothered about it. However, for some strange reason the app started to hang a coupe of hours ago - you should have at least one report on Market from me less than 15 minutes ago. I just noticed the update and it appears to have solved both the spinner and the hang, so I'm happy, but I thought you might like to know anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. The update itself should not have been the reason for the app hang to be resolved.... I will keep it in mind.

Regarding the ICS sync animation issue. I wasn't making fun about any of you reporting this. I just wanted to point out that this is a very minor issue, in my opinion, but still I don't remember any other issue on what I got so much mail in a short time frame ;) I am just a bit puzzled...

Btw. what was also different was the tone. Usually bug reports that I receive by email are accompanied by a tone that says if this doesn't get fixed right away the world as we know it may end ... or at least NewsRob is totally unusable and a room in hell now has my name on it ;) Not this time. All mails were in a nice tone hat just pointed me to this issue with a new OS version.

I'm afraid the hang issue occurred again this morning (twice so far). I sent in another report to Market and I'll be happy to try any prerelease version to nail this. I keep my SGS2 around anyway so it is no real show stopper for me.

Actually the error reporting via the Market is not that interesting to me. To protect your privacy Google doesn't pass on much of the information you submit to them.

Could you just describe the symptoms here, turn on logging and the next time this occurs could you submit a full log using the free Log Collector app? Please send the log to me directly, not to the mailing list. It may contain information that should not be public.

Sorry, clarification: The hang is only on my Galaxy Nexus (hence, not TOO off topic, though a separate thread may not be a bad idea). The SGS2 is currently my fallback phone (where NewsRob appears to work perfectly still). Will try to catch some logs later today. Stay tuned...

For the record: The app hung again a couple of times yesterday - ANR. I used the feedback via Market button. As before this was on the Galaxy Nexus. As I workaround I went to the Settings > Apps > Running tab and tried killing it - the first try only killed the service, the second also killed the app. It seems to behave better now. Possibly related: I've used the new data usage feature to limit background mobile data for NewsRob since it used a fair part of my quota - could that be the cause? I still want it to keep syncing while I'm on wifi (which is a lot of the time, say 90%).
