WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) - The son of Maryland Congressman Benjamin
Cardin has died suddenly, (early Wednesday morning). The congressman's
office did not reveal a cause but says 30-year-old Michael Cardin's
death ``is a very private and personal time.''

WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) - Michael Cardin, the son of Maryland
Congressman Benjamin Cardin, has died suddenly at the age of 30.

The congressman's office did not reveal a cause of death. A statement
issued this morning from Cardin's office says: ``This is a very private
and personal time. The family hopes the public will understand their
need for privacy and a time to grieve.''

Michael Cardin was a graduate of the University of Maryland School of
Law.

WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) - Michael Cardin, the son of Maryland

Congressman Benjamin Cardin, has died suddenly in Baltimore at the age
of 30.

The congressman's office did not reveal a cause of death, but issued
a statement this morning saying: ``This is a very private and personal


time. The family hopes the public will understand their need for privacy
and a time to grieve.''

Michael Cardin will probably be buried tonight in accordance with
Jewish custom, which requires burial within 24 hours of death, according
to the congressman's press secretary.

A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, Cardin was
working as a lawyer, the press secretary said.

Rep. Benjamin Cardin, D-Md., is now in his sixth term serving the
Baltimore district. Michael Cardin was one of two children born to Rep.
Cardin and his wife, Myrna.

WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) - Michael Cardin, the 30-year-old son of
Rep. Benjamin Cardin, was buried this afternoon in Baltimore.

Baltimore police confirm that Michael Cardin, a graduate of the
University of Maryland Law School, committed suicide late Tuesday night.
Jewish custom calls for burial within 24 hours of death.

A police spokeswoman said Cardin hanged himself in a building on the
800 block of Holland Street in Baltimore. His body was discovered at
about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Cardin's office issued the following statement: ``This is a very


private and personal time. The family hopes the public will understand
their need for privacy and a time to grieve.''

A Cardin spokeswoman said Michael Cardin, who was single, was working
as a lawyer, although she could not identify the firm.

He was one of the two children of Benjamin Cardin and his wife,
Myrna. Congressman Cardin has represented the Baltimore area since 1986.
