I have picked up a few B-7971 supertubes and whilst I have Jeff, Pete and Jurgen's wonderfull 4LW quietly swearing in the corner - I yearn for a clock/message board with maybe 8 or more of these tubes with a clock function but also a scrolling message feature with a computer link to drive it.

I am an application programmer and could do the computer end, but can anyone advise on creating a board (to drive a number of single tube driver boards)  and software to accept output from my computer code ?

As regards the output I thought we could start with Shakspeare and go from there ....

I'm putting the finishing touches on a new batch of B7971x8 driver
boards. Please have a look, and if you are interested go to the store
and put yourself on the "notify when back in stock" list. The wait
won't be much longer.

Note that it is entirely open-source so you can modify the
functionality as you please.

Have you looked at Smartsockets yet ? They are flexible and carry many
animations and special effects. One required per tube.

I'm currently working on a four tube IV-17/IV-4 vacuum fluorescent 16
segment display Smartsocket, in case you were looking for mini (and
cheaper) version of the larger FLW

Details are at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/smartsockets/?yguid=48099276

Feed them with ascii message strings and watch them display the
message. Simple

Hi fixitsan,

great to hear, that you are still working on the four tube IV-17/IV-4
smartsockets.

My VFDs are waiting to be fired up...

Cheers
