Two Davis-based acoustic folk trios known for their finely crafted original songs and close harmonies will perform together at N Street Cohousing, 716 N Street, Davis, Calif., Saturday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m.

MudLark is prized for its earthy and uplifting blend of original and traditional music. Tree-O delights audiences with its jazzy, bluesy originals and popular songs. Suggested donation is $6 to $20 at the door.

MudLark, which features Ray Frank, Katie Henry and Laura Sandage, performs original and traditional material with banjo, guitar, string bass and three expressive voices. MudLark's rich, rootsy sound "digs deeply and tickles your insides," according to one listener. The combined life experiences and performing histories of these three skilled musicians pour into the river of beauty, human frailty, and earthy humor that is their music.
They have performed regionally at house concerts, churches, and festivals since 2005 and released their Nest CD in 2007. Their N Street set will feature MudLark favorites, including original songs by all three members. Learn more atwww.mudlarkmusic.com.

Tree-O, which features George Haver, Rick Palkovic and Jamie Knapp, is celebrating the release this year of its second CD,Count of Days. Tree-O’s music takes listeners on adventures through tropical rainforests, spiritual ecstasy, twisted drinking songs, and tales of haunted bus drivers, airport angst, and coming of age in the city.

The group offers a modern interpretation to Americana string band instrumentation: three voices supported by guitar, mandolin, Dobro and bass, always marked by the band’s signature tight arranging, well-crafted vocal harmony and driving accompaniment. Tree-O’s N Street set will feature originals from the new CD as well as favorites from the band’s debut CD,Ooh-La-La, released in 2010. Learn more and hear song samples at www.treeomusic.com.

All six musicians have performed and recorded together in a variety of combinations over the past decade. They all played on Sandage’s first solo CD recording, Bloom, released in 2005. They contribute regularly to the Village Homes Performers’ Circle and have also taken part in local songwriting and vocal workshops. Sandage and Henry have collaborated as leaders of local singing groups for adults and children. Haver, Henry and Sandage also perform in the region’s premiere vocal group, Vocal Art Ensemble. Frank is a sought-after studio musician and accompanist. Knapp performs with The Blue Tones, and, together with Palkovic, in other local and regional bands including Elements of Style and Flatland String Band.
