I would REALLY like to be able to track time in MLO. Recent mention of
TaskCoach, which I had not seen before, even got me thinking about
defecting. But not yet...

How about adding user defined fields to MLO? (I searched, but could
not find this as a requested feature, at least by that name.)

In my thinking, user defined fields (UDF) would work as follows. Each
has a type. There are a few types: int, float, bool, text. When you
add a UDF, you also specify a name. It is a per-document setting. The
filtering system can use UDFs.

A highly valuable second-level enhancement would be a UDF type of
lookup, which would allow selection from a limited list. The list
always includes a NULL option, which is the default value of UDF
lookup field.

User friendly names for the types would be good; just trying to get
the idea across.

Me, too! I wish that MLO would add user defined fields. Please see
Ilium's ListPro for a good example of this feature. (I am not
suggesting that ListPro is a replacement for MLO. It is just a great
list maker.) ListPro's columns are very easy to set up and use. Very
flexible. You can add up to 32 columns per list and you can sort and
filter by the columns even on a PPC or Palm.

Yes, Yes Yes

Currently I try to work around it using Contexts.. and it just doesn't work.  Makes Contexts unmanagable.
and it should be a field you can enter in interactively in a view.
