Hi.

Like most consumers, I have also just moved from micro$soft to Apple
but miss MLO a lot. Please create MLO for Mac please :-D

Thank you.

most consumers???????   hmmm

I'm all for you requesting for your specific platform / usage because the more people that use MLO the better it is for all users.

but 6.45 market share worldwide and 13.something in the us is not exactly MOST consumers...........

*grin*

all in fun

careful Kelvin, Daniel has taken it upon himself to personally take on
all MAC users here that request a MLO version. By the way, that 6.45%
share accounts for tens of millions of potential customers.

Sorry, wasn't meant to sound like everyone's deserted to Mac ;)
Everyone's entitled to their likes and dislikes.

Sure, every product has its supporters and we have to respect that.
I'm part of the ones who went over to Mac and would like to see Mac
MLO without having to run parallel or boot camp, that's it. Just a
simply request.

so apparently the statement i hope everyone gets what they want or whatever i said and the LOL  etc means nothing to you

not sure how my saying i hope they get it is "taking them on" but whatever

ok no problem

here, let me clear up the confusion for you.

a statement was made that was not factual "most" users are NOT moving from microsoft to apple.  you don't get to "most" until you get to 50 point anything percent

I fact checked it and determined the actual market share of apple and posted the result in a nice way instead of just coming out and flaming someone for making a generalized statement that was not correct.  I also did it in a way that stated that i support their request

and now if your "tens" of millions statement is indeed correct you are missing two obvious concepts.

the first is i was not debating the number of actual users i was not debating anything.  I just stated the obvious after pledging support for their request

the second is the tens of millions as you state could only amount to the potential total of users if every one of those users wanted this software.

start reducing the tens of millions of users down to the potential users that would actually be looking for MLO and your pool has gotten very much smaller

now start with a potential pool of the other 93.55%. before filtering down the same way  who would you develop for?  a ratio is a ratio.  i don't care if the mac users number a trillion at 6.45% market share the other market is still bigger

so if you want to tell someone to be careful tell them to be careful to not use generalized non factual misleading statements.

A nicely considered response Daniel but I fear you are taking the troll bait. If an OSX version has widespread support then Mark has already provided the UserVoice link for those that choose to vote. I would leave it at that.

It's really annoying that these flamewars keep flaring up.

Anyone who has switched to Mac OS and misses MLO should try OmniFocus.
Neither app is perfect, but they have a lot of features in common.
OmniFocus is more expensive than MLO, but it has a built-in review
feature and an API in case you want to add your own features. The main
drawback is that it only allows one context per task, and the date
picker isn't as sophisticated--for example, you can't schedule
something for the "second tuesday of every month."

Likewise, I would suggest that anyone switching from Mac OS to Windows
try MLO.

If you really must use MLO on Mac and you don't want to mess with
Wine, just run MLO in a Windows VM. If you use "seamless" mode (or
whatever your particular VM software calls it), MLO will just be
another window in Mac OS.

HI Rob, thanks for feedback on Wine. Was looking into that to run MLO
on Mac... Might need to check out running MLO via VM until a MLO comes
out with Mac version. Thanks for feedback.

like developing for Android, and the iPad has "slowed development for
hundred of millions of customers"?

as a Mac user I have taken a long look at Omnifocus and Things. I
promised myself I would give it to the end of the year to see if
Andrey would at least comment on a Mac version before making the
switch. It looks like I will be switching to Omnifocus soon.

One more thing, once the iPad version of MLO is released, I doubt it
would be that time consuming to convert it into a full Mac version
since much of the code can be transferred.

I tried. Really tried, to make it onto Omnifocus. So much going for it (Mail integration etc). But I found it does not compare to MLO.

My hope are that v2 (which was supposed to be out this year, but never showed) will be better (have multiple contexts or custom tagging, notifications, notes for folders etc).

In the age of massive RAM and superb VM technology, I find running a very small XP instance lets me have all the Windows goodness (MLO, Visio) on my Mac without having to wait for mac versions or using inferior Mac analogs.

Rob, Nuzenn & Jonathan,

Thanks for OmniFocus suggestion. Not bad a first glance so will test
it out but really want to stick to MLO on Mac. Had a look at friend's
Mac running Windows7 via VM and according to him it really bloated &
slowed down the machine. I'm going to avoid Win7. Will look around for
XP to try on Mac - likely difficult to find XP these days.

Got to find a way to get MLO to run on Mac while waiting for Andrey to
port over. Thanks all for suggestions and feedback of VM and OmniFocus.

Hi Kelvin,

The lightest Windows OS is XP Home edition. Get an non OEM copy (from MSDN if possible) as it will be free of manufacturer crudware.

If you have to use an OEM version, then use PCdecrapifyer (http://pcdecrapifier.com/) to get rid of the bloat.

I it no more than 1 CPU core and 256Mb RAM and it flies.

For reference, right now Firefox 8 with a 20 tabs and some extensions will is taking over 1GB RAM and Mail.app 226Mb :-)

Can't find XP Home Edition. PCDecrapifyer sounds interesting, even the
name is good :-) LOL.

I'm also trying out OmniFocus while searching for XP. Might jump ship
to OmniFocus if can't find an elegant way to run MLO on Mac...
OmniFocus has some nice features and runs on Mac without VM.

I noticed that the new Twitter does not come with a version for the
Mac. Press coverage called it "a sign of the times".
Just sayin.

say what? Twitter has a pretty awesome Mac app. What press coverage
are you referring to? Obviously Andrey doesn't have to create a Mac
program if he doesn't wish to. I was just hoping he could respond one
way or the other.

Update on my search for GTD app on Mac and iPhone. OmniFocus and
Things stand out a lot. OmniFocus has a fairly steep learning curve
but once you're familiar with it, it's a very powerful application. On
the other hand, Things is easier to learn and has a nice and efficient
UI - it is not as sophisticated in terms of features as OmniFocus but
more than sufficient as a GTD tool. Download the trials and check both
of them out if you're looking for GTD on Mac. Once of them will fit
your requirement. Good luck.

Will visit this forum once every few months and hopefully MLO will
have a Mac version soon :-)

I have switched to Things for about 70% of my ToDo's. I am forced to
carry around a Windows Laptop to use MLO for the other 30%. Things
has a very nice looking UI. However, it is missing a lot of the
features that makes MLO so appealing. I really wish Andrey would just
come out and tell us his OSX plans one way or the other.

I just got my first Mac and I am in love.  I've spent $75+ on MLO, and hate to ditch it.  But having Parallels open all day doesn't seem like a good option, and I really don't care for MLO on my iPhone.

First, I own a Mac now, and sure I wish I could get MLO on it.

But,

Andrey's Road map sticky post from September 2011 is very clear that
he has about 6 projects on the front burner. Mac OS X is not one of
them.
Sure it would be really nice if he put a line in his road map that
speaks to Mac OS X. (Wish he would just do that already...) Other
than that, I'm glad that he's focused on delivering product. I hope
that by now he has a solid backend MLO engine that's shared across
platforms and the challenge is in creating a new user interface for
Mac.

The best way to 'vote' for a Mac version apparently is here:
http://mlo.uservoice.com

I haven't decided which of the following options I'll take on my Mac,
but for the record here are some ideas:

Virtual machines: 2,3,4,5 are free, except for the cost of the MS
license
1. Parallels/Bootcamp
2. VMware
3. VirtualBox
4. QEmu
5. BartPE version of windows running in #1,2,3,4 (http://www.nu2.nu/
pebuilder/) for the adventurous
It's a 'LiveCD' of windows, which when loaded in RAM is fast.

Other:
1. Codeweaver's Crossover Office - a supported version of Wine.
Here's a link directly to the MLO entry:
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=2578
It would help if more people signed on to it as being interested.
2. Iphone emulator running on Mac
3. Android emulator running on Mac

It also would be really helpful if people posted about their
experiences with all of these options. Anthony seems to have a problem
with Parallels, but doesn't say what exactly, unless it's the idea of
running windows all day.

It's the idea of running Parallels all day.   I've seen the light, and it's Mac.

BTW, I got Parallels dirt cheap in a Mac bundle.

Funny enough, MLO website contains one review which dates from 2007
http://www.mylifeorganized.net/products/my-life-organized/Reviews/my-life-organized-review-by-scameronde.htm

Specifically it says "But there is one major drawback: no version for
my Mac that i am using
at home ;-) Hey, developers. Thinking about porting it to the Mac? I
would shell out another 50 EUR for a Mac version immediately!"

mmmm, not bad... August 2007 and on the official website... almost 5
years.

MLO 3.5.9 work perfect on OSX 10.7.3 with Creossover XI/wine

Avoid using MLO 3.6.1 for now because it doesn't work for now.

I've been a PC user for years! Of course, when I moved over to Mac, I looked for a Mac version of the MLO software I've grown to love and depend on. But, since there isn't a version, I'm forced to look for alternatives as I'm sure many others have. To me, this is a missed opportunity for MLO because you may not get any of us back once we've become accustom to another tool.

My 2 cents

For everyone interested in MLO for OS X, go ahead and vote for it at UserVoice:

It's still far behind the most popular suggestion ("Calendar overview"), but with enough votes we can change that :-)

See your votes there:
