Contexts seem to be duplicating

I recently installed MLO on my desktop (45 day trial) and Android tablet, and I paid for a year of the Cloud service. I purchased and used MLO several years ago, but stopped using it due to the complexity (IMO) and lack of mobile options (since I've used Outlook, Evernote, text files, you name it), but the new Android version looked good so I decided to try again.

Right away I'm having a strange problem with Contexts. After synchronizing between the desktop and Android using the Cloud service, I noticed that I have multiple copies of each context:
@Home
@Home1
@HomeAgenda
@HomeAgenda1

and so on. I manually deleted all of the contexts ending in 1 on the desktop, resynchronized, and it appeared to be good. A day later, I looked again, and this time I had 3 of every context:
@Home
@Home1
@Home11

I should point out that so far, I've only added maybe 15-20 items to MLO, and I haven't actually added contexts for any of them. It certainly appears like this is some kind of hack in the sync and change reconciliation code, but I wonder if in a few weeks I'll have hundreds or thousands of contexts.

Is this a known issue, and is there a workaround?

Also, a comment if you don't mind. I understand that you decided to create your own Cloud service, and it's not bad for a first effort (I'd say Evernote and Google are the gold standards to shoot for). I don't mind that it's a charge option, but it would be nice if there was some way to get a 30-45 day trial to go along with the trial period on the Windows and Android applications. As it is, I had to sign up and pay although I really am still evaluating this.

Thanks,
Barry

I had the same issue with the duplicating contexts. Unfortunately I have been using the desktop version of MLO for quite a while so it took me a few hours to straighten out the mess it left in my contexts!  I uninstalled the Android app and will not use it again.  Curiously enough I also have the iPad app and it works beautifully.

Hi ,
I had the same problem, but I now know what the problem was.
When I first installed the android app, I created a new file from a
template on my phone and then later cloud synced it with my desktop
version. That was the mistake. By doing that I already created some
contexts on the phone and when I later synced with the desktop / the
cloud, the names of contexts that existed on both sided were changed
as a precaution.

Here is what I did, to get rid of the duplicates:
1. I deleted my mlo file on my phone
2. I deleted all duplicate contexts within the desktop version (maybe
you need to merge the duplicates with the originals, in order to keep
the right context for the tasks)
3. Create a new (clean) cloud file.
4. Sync desktop to cloud.
5. Create empty file (without template / without anything in it like
tasks or context ) CHECK THIS carefully.
6. Sync your new cloud file to the empty file on the phone.

Done.
That should do it. Worked for me.

I am using MLO on Windows, iPhone and iPad and I remember also having
that problem at the beginning. This said I have no idea what caused
it. I had assumed it was some not so brilliant settings on my side.
This did not happen again.

Thanks Jill.

I'm trying to do as you suggest, but I've wasted a fair amount of time so far and I haven't had a lot of luck. I think the problem may be that I can't find any way to do step 1 - how do I delete the MLO file on Android? Is there a way to do that from within the Android MLO app, or can you tell me where on the Android file system I can find the .mlo file?

I also have to say that there is another solution that would be a lot better: the developer could fix this obvious bug. Mr MLO Developer - are you there? I'd really rather not waste hours jumping through hoops to resolve this.

Thanks again,
Barry

Hi Barry,

I think you need to just create a new (empty) file within the app.
To do that need to go to settings (via mlo home screen) > profiles >
create new > create blank profile.

After you have done that, you need to go back to the profiles menu. By
pressing long on the old file name you get a context menu to delete
the (old) file. Do that.
Then do the rest as stated above.

Hope that helps.
Jill.
