Subject: Community meeting Sept 22 on short term rental properties

Neighbors, property owners, and visitors are all invited to join a
conversation about the emergence of short term rental properties (VRBO, Air
BnB, Homeaway, etc.) in residential areas. Nashville has over 900 of these
at this point. It is actually an important part of our hospitality economy,
but the Metro Code is currently ambiguous about their legal status. Based
on what other cities have done, the proposed draft ordinance provides some
regulation and allows for the collection of hotel taxes as Historic and
Rural Bed and Breakfasts are already required to do. This is the result of
numerous meetings with neighborhood groups, metro departments, short term
rental owners, and anyone else with an interest in the subject.
Please pass this notice on to your neighborhood listservs and come to
a community meeting on Monday, September 22 at 5:30 in the Sonny West
Conference Room at the Howard Office Building, 700 2nd Ave S to hear about
the draft proposal and to offer your comments and suggestions.
