Dear neighbors, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day to plant cherry trees and the amazing and overwhelming event was the 100+ volunteers that came out to honor and remember our war heroes, and our service men and women. I was overwhelmed, thrilled and most grateful for all that made this day wonderful.
Again, for the past four years, the Japan American Society of Tennessee has contributed 20 Yoshino cherry trees for our event on Riverside Dr. Their encouragement and support is deeply appreciated. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Cumberland Ward hosted this event for the fourth year. Providing a welcoming faith community, hot chocolate and lunch after the planting, we are graced by their presence in our community and gratefully for their continued support.
I want to thank Dr. Tom Hadley of East Side Smiles for providing funds towards the purchase of 30 additional trees, which were added to our 30 that we plant each year, and for pre-drilling the holes to help ease the hard work of digging a hole by our volunteers. A special thanks to Eric Stawicki with Arbor Springs Lawn and Landscaping, who helped load and deliver the trees to the planting site. To Beth Gwinn, who has been our photographer for our planting events. Mike Brown with Home Depot, Joyce Lane, who has supported various events in our neighborhood and who provided an auger to start the holes for the trees.
The hard work of our volunteers will result in an ever more beautiful Riverside Drive. It is wonderful to see such Community spirit with the end result being Beauty, Fellowship, and respect for our service personnel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
