I am pleased to announce the launch of a new podcast, Sound Expertise, which features interviews with musicologists, music theorists, ethnomusicologists, and other music scholars. Hosted by musicologist Will Robin, each episode of Sound Expertise spotlights the research of a different scholar through a longform conversation, designed to educate the general public about musicology as well as frame new ideas in the field in an alternative format to traditional scholarship.

Season 1 of Sound Expertise launched last month, and comprises ten episodes published weekly on Tuesdays at soundexpertise.org as well as Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, and Spotify. Recent episodes have included interviews with Erika Supria Honisch about sacred music in early modern Prague, university music curricula and white supremacy with Loren Kajikawa, and timbre in '80s pop with Megan Lavengood. This week's episode is a conversation with New Yorker music critic Alex Ross about his forthcoming book "Wagnerism: Art and Politics in the Shadow of Music." Future episodes will include interviews with other members of the AMS.

I hope that you will tune in to Sound Expertise, and tell your colleagues and students to check it out! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

William Robin
Assistant professor of musicology, University of Maryland School of Music
