We are writing to introduce a new open and collaborative world music textbook project. The World Music Textbook (https://worldmusictextbook.org) seeks to create a free and broadly accessible resource for the general public, educators, students, and researchers alike. We envision an adaptable free textbook that can serve a wide range of music courses through short articles and media developed with undergraduate students and the general public in mind. Through this project, we look to present scholarly, peer-reviewed writing and multimedia materials as well as increase access for underrepresented voices.

The World Music Textbook welcomes writing of roughly 500 to 2,000 words or films and multimedia projects of a similar scope. We are interested in all types of accessible content and welcome contributions on any musical topic. We particularly welcome submissions that contribute to dismantling traditional disciplinary boundaries between musicology and ethnomusicology.

Our editorial process includes the optional step of editorial mentorship to support authors in successfully publishing their work while maintaining the benefits of the blind review process. Where possible, we will provide translation services for submissions in languages other than English or otherwise assist contributors. We invite you to review the call for contributions at https://worldmusictextbook.org/call/

Please contact the editors at editors -at- worldmusictextbook.org with any questions about the project, and we offer our thanks for any contributions or assistance you might be able to provide as we launch this new project.
