CALL FOR PAPERS
Spring Meeting of the Capital Chapter of the American Musicological Society
April 9-10, 2021
Hosted virtually by Howard University
Submission Deadline: Monday, March 8, 2021

The Spring Meeting of the Capital Chapter of the AMS will take place online (via Zoom and Remo) on Friday afternoon, April 9, and Saturday morning, April 10. The Capital Chapter invites proposals for papers and lecture-recitals on any subject of musicological interest. Submissions from faculty, independent scholars, and graduate or undergraduate students of any discipline are welcome. The meeting will include the Irving Lowens Award for Student Research, as well as a roundtable discussion on the pedagogical relevance of composer anniversaries in undergraduate and graduate teaching. More details about the Lowens awards criteria are posted on the Capital Chapter’s website.

All papers will be delivered live, unless extenuating circumstances make that prohibitive.

Papers and lecture-recitals
Papers and lecture-recitals will be limited to 20 minutes. Submissions should include an abstract (250 words) and title. Please refer to the AMS abstract guidelines: “Proposals should represent the presentation as fully as possible. A successful proposal typically articulates the main aspects of the argument or research findings clearly, positions the author’s contribution with respect to previous scholarship, and suggests the paper’s significance for the musicological community, in language that is accessible to scholars with a variety of specializations.” Applicants for paper and lecture-recital sessions may submit only one proposal per meeting; figures and examples should not be included. Submit all proposals via email to Alanna Tierno (aropchoc -at- su.edu) by March 8, 2021. The Program Committee will announce decisions by March 15. Presenters must be members of the American Musicological Society.

Panelists for roundtable discussion
We invite proposals for short (5 minute) position papers on the pedagogical relevance of composer anniversaries in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Proposals should include an abstract (250 words) and title. Applicants should submit their proposal via email to Alanna Tierno (aropchoc -at- su.edu) by March 8, 2021. The Program Committee will announce decisions by March 15.
