The Music Department of Colby College seeks applicants for a unique tenure-track position in electronic music, music theory, and composition at the rank of assistant professor, starting September 1, 2021. The successful candidate will join a small, active, and highly collaborative department and will have a central role in further expanding our electronic music program. We seek a dynamic teacher and scholar who will offer classes in music theory, composition, and the candidate’s field of interest, as well as teach students in Colby’s Music and Interdisciplinary Computation Major (offered jointly with Computer Science). The candidate will also maintain a strong research trajectory in their field(s) of specialization.

The department is especially interested in candidates who have documented success in undergraduate teaching, as well as in writing, performing, and producing a range of electronic music (and/or creating acoustic and electronic music for video, film, and dance). At this moment of inflection in the field of music studies, we particularly welcome applications from candidates whose research or compositional interests engage the ongoing dialogues around inclusion and equity and who can offer innovative courses that address aspects of diversity in its many forms.

Application should include: i) a cover letter outlining interests and specific qualifications for the position; ii) a curriculum vitae; iii) three confidential letters of recommendation; iv) a statement of teaching philosophy and research interests that demonstrates commitment to the value of diversity and to inclusive teaching; v) a representative sample of recent scholarship/work in progress, which may include examples of recent audio and/or visual projects; and vi) ideas for possible elective offerings and a description of how they might contribute to the music curriculum at Colby College. Application materials may include hyperlinks to audio or video files, but please do not submit physical copies of recordings or publications at this time. Review of applications will begin January 3, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.

All materials must be submitted electronically to: apply.interfolio.com/81375

The Interfolio site also contains a fuller description of the position.
