Hi - after watching the thread at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=697205
fill up with useful, but misplaced, reports from people testing the
experimental ARMv6 Fennec builds, I thought it might help if there was
somewhere for testers to post reports of issues that aren't ready for
b.m.o yet.

Mods, please move/delete if this is in the wrong place!

To get started: both

scrolling and zooming; sync seems a little temperamental but mostly
works.

On my HTC Hero with CyanogenMod 7.1.0, I could install and run it, and
setup Sync. But apparently Sync did not do anything. The "Settings" menu
entry is greyed out. When I click "Browse all Nightly add-ons", the
address bar changes and the loading symbol is animated, but nothing
happens. When I enter a URL (in short form, e.g., heise.de), the "->"
button is not clickable. In other words: Fennec runs, but I cannot get
it to do anything useful ...

I tried both the fennec and the nightly builds on my HTC Tattoo with cm 9 Android 4.0.3,it installs perfectly and app opens. The start page to appears fine but when I type a URL the browser shows the page loaded but the area under the tabs is ALWAYS black!!! If I press the list of tabs button the page overview is shown but the page can't be seen when I select the tab!

They know how to activate the default mobile view? Is that the browser chooses either, I installed Phony but seems not to work.

Sync works fine here after a couple of minutes . ZTE Blade running
2.3.7. Maybe you just have to wait longer than usual, give it some
time. FF needs lotsa memory to run, and the Hero isn't a champion.

What version of Android is this phone running?

Recent nightly builds will not run on Android 2.1 or earlier, because of
this bug:

I don't know whether the same bug affects the experimental ARMv6 build...

the past several years.

We are working on re-adding Android 2.1 support, though it will require
some amount of new code. If that work is not finished soon, we'll need
to discuss whether to release without Android 2.1 support. Details will
be available at:

Tried both .apk's with my Velocity Micro Cruz T103 Tablet, they won't even install.

Though the Velocity Micro Cruz T103 Tablet is listed amongst the unsupported devices at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#System_Requirements as having an ARMv6, it does not. It contains a Ingenic JZ4760 MIPS processor.

Hopefully support for MIPS would be added sometime. I'd love to be able to use Firefox on my device...

I compiled nightly April 15th (v14) and today (v15) and it is working fine for my ARMv6 phone (Republic Wireless LG Optimus S) - a bit slow, but sync makes it all worth the wait.

Building on Debian Unstable.

However, it installs as "fennec mike" (mike = me, the user doing the compiling/packaging - odd) rather than "fennec". Haven't figured that one out, yet.

This is by design, see bug 734881. The package name for local builds is
org.mozilla.fennec_<username>, and so it is possible to install multiple
fennec builds built by different users onto the same device and use them
concurrently. In order to distinguish between the homescreen icons for
these different fennec apps, we added the username to the homescreen
icon as well.

The app's display name is set here, only for builds with "unofficial"
branding:

http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/mobile/android/branding/unofficial/configure.sh

You can either edit that file, or add an option like this to build with
"nightly" branding instead:

--with-branding-dir=mobile/android/branding/nightly

I assumed this by looking at the branding directory, but was unsure. Thank you for the confirmation, Matt.

Since these are unofficial builds, I'm guessing the Mozilla folks would prefer this build was shared with unofficial branding? And is there any plans to offer ARMv6 support for the MOZ_UPDATER? Or nightly ARMv6 builds now that compilation is successful?

As long as you are not building with the "Firefox" release branding, I
don't think you need to worry about the trademark policy. Nightly
branding should be fine. For example, we sometimes distribute Try
Server builds for testing purposes, and those use Nightly branding.

Ted filed this bug to start producing automated nightly builds for ARMv6
again, but it might not happen for a while because of other
high-priority work that's taking up release engineering time right now:

I decided to just build an unofficial Nightly in hopes that settings will be used transparently for when ARMv6 nightlies are provided officially. Just a note, the option was actually:
--with-branding=mobile/android/branding/nightly
NOT
--with-branding-dir=mobile/android/branding/nightly

Again, thank you for the help.

Here is the APK for reference:
https://rapidshare.com/files/1229274445/fennec-15.0a1.en-US.android-arm-v6-20120507.apk

My intent was to build an optimized Nightly, but I'm not actually sure that is actually successful with the state of ARMv6. Here is the mozconfig: (Please let me know if there is an error/redundancy as I would like to share the APK. Thanks.)

ac_add_options --with-android-ndk="/mnt/Data/Development/android/android-ndk-linux"
ac_add_options --with-android-sdk="/mnt/Data/Development/android/android-sdk-linux/platforms/android-13"
ac_add_options --with-android-version=5
ac_add_options --enable-application=mobile/android
ac_add_options --with-arch=armv6
ac_add_options --target=arm-linux-androideabi

ac_add_options --with-branding=mobile/android/branding/nightly
mk_add_options MOZ_OBJDIR=./objdir-droid
mk_add_options MOZ_MAKE_FLAGS="-j4 -s"

That j4 isn't a typo. Only a dual core :(

As discussed on XDA, your ARMv6 builds seem very stable except for the mysterious disappearance of the sync account on reboot.

After pairing, I see the "org.mozilla.firefox.sync" account in /data/system/accounts.db (with id=25?) but somehow it's not restored (or is deleted) at startup. I also notice that the account password is stored in plain text (auth.plain) in that db's authtokens field.

I have no way of knowing if this is specific to your build or a more generic issue with current nightlies. Is anyone here facing the same problem?
