Hi,
2 strings just landed in both Beta and Aurora to improve Windows 10
support in Firefox [1].
https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-beta/diff/e20cd05df63b/browser/locales/en-US/chrome/browser/preferences/search.dtd

As you may know, Windows 10 is going to be released on Jul 29, while
Firefox 40 (currently in Beta) is going to be released on August 11.

To give a bit more background, the new pref (displayed only on Windows
10) is: "Use this search engine for searches from Windows".

In Windows 10 it's possible to search from within Windows, search opens
in Firefox (if set as default) but uses Bing by default. Enabling this
pref it's possible to use Firefox' default search engine for these searches.

Clarification on the dates:

July 29 is when we'll stop taking sign-offs for 40, so that those get
into the last beta, and we still have an option for bustage fixes in those.

There's also an opportunity here for a community project: Anyone want to
lead getting this string localized and landed on hg for those
localizations working on pootle, which doesn't expose beta?

Hi Francesco,

how do I get the translated strings to beta?

This is exactly where I'd like a community member with hg access to
champion.

Get the strings, land them, make sure there are sign-offs, etc.

Details TBD.

Note, I'm in contact with Dwayne on Desktop sign-offs for 40, I would
have expected a few more, gotta check on that.

Fine, but I have no hg access and not the faintest idea how Mercurial works.

Well, the strings I have but where shall I land them? As a simple Pootle
translator I cannot sign-off, either.

What's TBD?

So, the only thing I can do is to give the translations:

Upper Sorbian:

<!ENTITY redirectWindowsSearch.label "Tutu pytawu za pytanja z Windowsa
wužiwać">
<!ENTITY redirectWindowsSearch.accesskey "W">

Lower Sorbian:

<!ENTITY redirectWindowsSearch.label "Toś tu pytnicu za pytanja z
Windowsa wužywaś">
<!ENTITY redirectWindowsSearch.accesskey "W">

Consider your self lucky. There is a reason for Pootle existence. :)

As far as I know Jeff is trying to make localizers working on Pootle
responsible for their sign-offs (now they're on Dwayne), but it's a long
process.

To Be Determined.

Strings should be available on Pootle for Aurora (Firefox 41), then
they'll be committed to Mercurial.

One they're in Mercurial (mozilla-aurora), someone (the volunteer Axel
is talking about) can help in moving these 2 strings to mozilla-beta.
and eventually request a sign-off.

If someone is willing to help I'm available to guide him through the
first locales, and make sure that the process is clear. Prerequisite is
to have Mercurial access and a decent understanding of Mercurial.

Strings have been temporarily backed out from Beta, they'll re-land as
soon as tests are fixed.

You can still go ahead and land them, just ignore the dashboard for a
while since it will report them as obsolete (until they land again).
