Hello people of Firefox OS,

After a discussion we have decided that the distinction between dev-gaia and dev-b2g mailing lists is not enough to warrant maintaining two lists. So we are deprecating both in favor of dev-fxos. So if you are subscribed to one of the aforementioned lists, you will be subscribed to the new dev-fxos list and we will shortly be decommissioning dev-gaia and dev-b2g.

Thanks!
Michael

+1 - thanks for taking care of that. Less mailing list friction = one less confusing thing for contributors.

Seems like we should also merge IRC channels into #fxos?

Agreed about merging the IRC channels.

Gregor brought up a good point about dev-gaia and dev-b2g, that we should leave them open to allow people to post there so we can push them over to use dev-fxos. Then we can mark dev-gaia and dev-b2g as read-only in a week or too.

We will also need to update documentation (README, MDN) to point to the new mailing list and IRC channel.

I’ve already updated the community box at the bottom of

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox_OS

to point to the new list. Is the new IRC just going to be #fxos? Is this created yet?

Also, I assumed there would be a google group at

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/mozilla.dev.fxos

to go along with the new mailing list, but this doesn’t seem to exist.

It seems the list is currently configured to use mailman style archives:

https://lists.mozilla.org/pipermail/dev-fxos/

Not sure if that's a bug.

Also, the list seems to be hidden from the mailing list overview page:

https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo

I'm not sure what that mean. Does this mean it's not tracked by the google group?

Yeah, we need to update this to be shown on the mailing list overview page. I'll ping servicedesk about that.

I am guessing there is no Google Group currently.

Other lists like dev-b2g link to Google Groups from list summary page:

https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-b2g

Maybe it's the wrong setup request? Service now says: "For a
Discussion Forum, which can be created as a mailing list on
lists.mozilla.org, a newsgroup on news.mozilla.org or a public Google
Group, please use this link:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=mozilla.org&format=mozlist".
I believe that's the desired list type, to match dev-b2g / dev-gaia.

Yup, I created the wrong type of list. Jen Hayashhi is helping me fix this [1] (thanks Jen!). I'll keep you all updated.

Note, it takes a while for google to get these up, usually in the 1+week
timeframe.
