Not sure I understand exactly what you mean, but if you want to have
cards in one direction, use 'front-to-back'. If you want to review
them in both directions 'front-to-back and back-to-front' as card
type. You can also convert between these two card types if you edit
cards. And if you have 'front-to-back and back-to-front' cards and for
some reason only want to review the 'back-to-front' side, you can
deactivate the 'front-to-back' side in the 'Activate cards dialog'.

A trick is to paste the text file into a spreadsheet like excel, where it should automatically put each word into a different cell. All you need to do is the copy and paste so that the columns are switched, and copy and paste the words back into the text file. Then you can import it.
