Hi,

That file is a UTF-16 file, please save it as UTF-8.

Cheers,

Peter

I exported Arabic vocabulary as a Tab separated file from Flashcard Exchange.

I planned to import this as a regular flashcard format (two fields, not the special vocabulary three field format).

When I try to import it, I get the message "missing answer on line:"  and then nothing after that.

I've tried to look at the text file to see if there were any extra tab characters or empty records at the end, and I didn't see any.

I saw an old thread about a plug-in to support CSV, but I couldn't find this plug-in to see if using CSV would make a difference.

I have attached the file I wanted to import.

Suggestions for how to convert to UTF-8 please?

I tried going to   http://www.fileformat.info/convert/text/utf2utf.htm   and upload the file.
I told it the input was UTF-16 and my desired output was UTF-8.
It gave me a file of zero bytes back.
That doesn't look promising....

If you do 'save' in your editor, doesn't it give you an option to
change the encoding?

I assume you're on a mac, perhaps other mac user can give more concrete tips.

Cheers,

Hi,

Actually, sorry, I am not on a Mac.

I am on a PC.....

I tried using Notepad, Wordpad, and Excel to save it.  None of them seem to give me options to choose different UTF's.

I am on Win 7.  Also, I have MS Office 2007.

Word allows you to do this:

Ah ok...I got it.   Thanks

I had originally looked at that importing page, but I think Word 2007 interface is different.
When I went deep into the SAVE AS dialog, then I found UTF option after choosing "plain text".

Thanks

Hi,

I think I have an easier answer...
This can easily be done in Notepad. Just open the file in Notepad, select File, Save As... Then select the encoding drop-down at the bottom and select UTF-8. Save over or save as a different file. Voila! You're done.

Happy learning!
