On the File menu are two choices I am uncertain wether I ought to use:

  • "Save" I use sometimes, thinking I will loose less if a crash happens
  • "Compact" I have never used. I associate it with some problems reported in this Discussion group. Should I use it? Why? When?

Thanks in advance!

If you really want to make sure you don't loose anything, set 'autosave
after x cards' to 1, but that will be slightly slower though.

It cleans up empty space in the database (which you will get after
deleting a large number of cards) and finds media files which are not
used by the database.
