Thanks for the feedback, but 'doing homework' is a bit too unspecific
for me to reproduce. Can you tell me exactly what you were doing and
what the card was?

If it was an old cloze card, please recreate it first.

What do you mean with 'door has closed'?

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter, sorry for the poor communication. Below are some more details:

I've been using 2.0-RC1 since 9th May (W7/64) and reported some issues.

My Mnem db consist of 7500 cards. Today I had approx 160 cards scheduled for repetition ("homework"), let us call it Learning Session 1.  I experienced some (2-3?) "uncaught exception" error messages during Learning Session 1. I have become used to this occurring so I did not make a note of card-type etc., just clicked "ok" and continued.

Yesterday I had imported approx 70 txt cards, all as "Front to back" only, but not yet memorised these cards. Some of these cards intentionally contained <br> for lineshift, that is the only particualarity I can think of. All the txt-imported cards had their own  tag= E_1_65. E_1_65 was NOT part of Learning Session 1.

After completion of Learning Session 1 I wanted to go on to Learning Session 2: learn the recently created E_1_65.  I "ticked off" E_1_65 for learning and the "not memorised"-counter (as expected) increased from 0 to approx 70.

During Learning Session 2 the "uncaught exception" error messages (see #04 and #05) appeared for approx every 3rd card, I clicked "ok" and continued.

Then (after about 10 cards?) the "uncaught exception" error message #06  appeared and it all stopped, Mnemosyne did not respond.

Neither restart of Mnemosyne nor restart of PC did the trick. Trying to start Mnemosyne, the "uncaught exception" error message #06 appeared, but no Mnemosyne program started running.

From http://users.ugent.be/~pbienst/pub/ I then reloaded ver 2.0-RC1. Same result.  Only the "uncaught exception" error message #06 appeared, no program.

Do you have a hint for a workaround solution until 2.0 stabilised? Can I "go down" to e.g. mnemosyne-20120416 (17-Apr-2012)?

PS during Learning Session 1 I seem to remember "falling out" of Mnemosyne", but thinking I had hit un unfortunate combination of keys or similar, I just restarted and continued without major problems.

/ Henrik

Hi Henrik,

Since one of your error messages contains 'disk IO error', I'm a bit afraid that you are suffering from hard drive issues. Did you run a disk check as I recommended earlier?

In case, I suggest you take a backup of your Mnemosyne data as soon a possible to a different location for safety.

Feel free to mail me your deck, so that I can see if I can reproduce your isses.

Downgrading your install to beta 11b should pose no inherent problems. It would be interesting to see if the issues persist.

Good luck!

Peter

Hi Pete
1) Ran check disk + fix combined. MS haven't made it easy to interpret results.  See attached photos (Chck_disk01 and 02). As far as I understand: Nothing wrong with disk. I have never experienced anything that could be disk-related problems when running non-mnemosyne programs
2) Installed mnemosyne-20120416-setup.exe. Similar problem as with 2.0-RC1. See attachment  "Uncaught exception 07". No mnem-program started.
3) Installed mnemosyne-beta-11b-setup.exe. Again: "Uncaught exception 07". No mnem-program started.
4.a) Installed mnemosyne-2.0-RC1-setup.exe
4.b) Restored learning DB to version before activating tag E_1_65 (thank you for great functionality dropbox). See attached Mnem_after_restore.
5) Mnemosyne starts again without error messages.

My lay analysis points to a main suspect: txt import.

My DB is 8 MB. Still want it? Attached to mail to Peter.B...@UGent.be

Hmm, 'Windows has made corrections to the file system' does indicate
that at least something went wrong.

The error about ui_language is in a completely different part of the
code. Since the errors you get seem to be quite varied, it indicates
that something really weird is going on.

Please send me your deck in the problematic state. If it's too big,
you can use some website like yousendit. Also include config and
config.py.

I'll try to get to the bottom of this!

Hi Henrik,

I tried the database you sent me, both on Linux and XP. Did about 50 reviews each time, without any problems whatsoever.

Not sure if this qualifies as good news or as bad news, but in any case it seems difficult for me to do anything about an issue I cannot reproduce :-(

Some general things you could try:

* uninstall Mnemosyne completely and then reinstall
* delete the 'config' file (or at least move it to another location.). You will lose your configuration options, though.

Hello Henrick,

Have you been using the 2.0-alpha version of Mnemogogo?

During his testing, Peter found that an assertion could be triggered
after a Mnemogogo input due to a problem with card data for failed
(graded < 2) cards. I wonder if this could be happening in your case.

Tim.

Hi Tim
No, I have not yet tested the Mnemogogo. Looking forward to it!

Hi Peter
  1. Uninstalled Mnemosyne completely
  2. Moved the 'config' files (config and config.py and config.pyo) to other location.
  3. Reinstalled mnemosyne-2.0-RC1
  4. Opened Saved DB with new name hg_txt_import
  5. Included ALL tags
  6. "Learned" approx 800 learning items without problems
  7. When I finally came to learning txt-imported (Tag E_1_65) cards I got an error messages for every 3rd card. Deleted problem-card. Learning 2 cards were ok, then problem/ deleted etc. See attachments Uncaught exception 10-14
  8. I thought I managed to delete most of the txt-imported (Tag E_1_65) cards
  9. Did some learning on a restored DB. Get warning about sister cards, Press “ok” and run into trouble.
  10. One cloze del card gives error message again, has no tag. I give it tag xx. Impossible to delete. See attachments “Kitty”
Sorry to trouble you like this, I hope some of it may be helpful.

Thanks for the feedback! Could you also mail me the attachments
'uncaught exception' 10-14, as well as the database?

Cheers,

Peter
