Knowledge Discovery deals with the content-driven identification and localization of digital objects such as semi-structured data on the web (i.e., Linked Open Data), Documents, Profiles, or Communities and understanding the relationships among them. It involves the design of innovative methodologies and algorithms and their application to extensive data and document corpora of different origin and quality, also known as Big Data.

 

For the EU-funded project MOVING, we seek to fill for the Knowledge Discovery group starting at 1.4.2017 (or by individual arrangement)

 

one Post-doctoral researcher (Post-Doc, EG 14 TV-L)

or

one doctoral researcher (PhD student, EG 13 TV-L)

 

The full-time-position is time-limited to 31.3.2019. Time-limitation is based on the regulations of the German WissZeitVG (Gesetz über befristete Arbeitsverträge in der Wissenschaft).

 

Your tasks …

·        Research and application of methods and algorithms in the area of Knowledge Discovery, Data Science and/or Semantic Web

·        active participation in the EU Projekt MOVING in the area of Text Mining and semantic Information Retrieval

 

Your profile …

·        very good studies (University or University of Applied Sciences) in computer science or related subject (studies (Master’s degree, Diploma, or similar) need to be accomplished upon commencement of one’s duties)

·        very good PhD in computer science or related subject (only for Post-Doc position)

·        excellent analytical skills and ability to work independently

·        interest in interdisciplinary and international research cooperation

 

In addition we request …

·        very good programming skills

·        experience in the area of Knowledge Discovery, Data Science and/or Semantic Web (for PhD position: desired)

·        experience in Text Mining and semantic Information Retrieval (desired)

·        interest in research and willingness for vocational training with the goal of obtaining a PhD (for doctoral student) / advancing in the scientific career (Professorship) or headship in Research and Development (for Post-Doc)

The ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics is a public research institute of the extra-university research organization Leibniz Association and associated with Kiel University. Research and higher education has a long history in Kiel. The university was founded in 1665. The computer science department has 18 professors and covers research in different areas of computer science as well as algorithm engineering and numerical mathematics. As such, ZBW is part of an excellent research environment. ZBW is a high-tech information infrastructure conducting research in computer science and related areas, particularly in Text and Data Mining, Semantic Web, and Science 2.0. In addition, ZBW develops innovative technologies for operating the IT infrastructure for its own, world’s largest specialist library for economics. The research group Science 2.0 of ZBW comprises three professors on Knowledge Discovery (Prof. Scherp), Web Science (Prof. Peters), and Media Informatics (Prof. Tochtermann) and currently has 17 PhD students and post-doctoral students.
