The Computational Research in Science and Technology Laboratory at the University of Maryland, College Park, has open postdoctoral positions to develop computational techniques for machine learning-assisted design of nontraditional engineering problems related to materials and their integration into engineering systems. Specific interest is in natural language processing approaches in connection with machine learning applied to a subject of relevance in materials research. Qualified applicants will have demonstrated experience in the following areas: (1) natural language processing or data-driven methods and (2) computational sciences related to a basic science or an engineering field.

Candidates are encouraged to apply who possess:
- a PhD in Engineering, Material Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
- proficiency with code development and code use on large-scale computing platforms
- experience with use of databases
- a track record of scholarly research.
- strong motivation with excellent written and speaking communication skills

The appointments will be in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, full-time, for at least one-year with the possibility of renewals pending satisfactory performance and funding. Remuneration will be competitive and based on qualifications. The expected start date is March 2018 but applicants will be considered on a continuing basis until the positions are filled. Some, but not all, of the positions require US citizenship.
