The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s newly founded national institute for Data Science, is looking for top international post-doctoral

researchers in computer science, mathematics, statistics, and machine learning.

The Institute is a joint venture between the Universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, UCL and Warwick in partnership with the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The Institute will be directed by Professor Andrew Blake and is based in the British Library in London’s Knowledge Quarter. Two hundred data scientists are expected to be housed in the Institute.

The Institute will carry out research in core areas of computer science including among others: new approaches for machine learning, scaling out parallel and distributed computing, coping with algorithmic complexity, and new paradigms for programming big data applications. As part of defining the scope of the institute a number of workshops are currently being organised. A current list may be found here: https://turing.ac.uk/#data-summits-workshops .

UK computer scientists are playing a strong role in setting the early agenda of the Institute — Andrew Blake is joined by Simon Arridge, Graham Cormode, Jon Crowcroft, Zoubin Ghahramani, Stephen Roberts and John Shawe-Taylor, who are helping to scope the initial scientific direction of the Institute.

Prospective applicants are invited to submit a curriculum vitae and a one-page covering note explaining how their expertise is relevant to data science and the mission of the Institute via email to in...@turing.ac.uk
