2 Open Positions for Early-Stage Researchers Pursuing PhDs in the Area of Artificial Intelligence without Bias

The School of Computer Science at the University of Southampton is inviting applications for two Early Stage Researchers to work in the area of Artificial Intelligence decision making without bias. The researchers will work within the interdisciplinary community of a large EU-funded Marie Sklodowska-Curie European Training Network and will pursue a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Southampton as part of their 3-year engagement with the project.

The specific research topics include methods, tools and frameworks to discover bias in inaccessible (black box) algorithms or to explain the cause of bias in artificial intelligence systems. The successful candidates will have a BSc or an MSc in computer science, data science or related discipline and will be willing to collaborate with researchers and industrial partners in these areas who may work in a different discipline. This collaboration involves extended research stays at partner sites in the UK, in Spain or in other European countries for up to 90 days on each occasion.
