In the Department of Computer Science at Paderborn University, which is
part of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and
Mathematics, the following position is to be filled as soon as possible:

Full Professor of Data Science (W 3)

We seek outstanding personalities with an excellent scientific
qualification in the handling of large volumes of data whose experience
prepares them to broadly represent the field of data science in
research, teaching and service. In order to complement the already
existing expertise in theoretical, analytical and technical fields, we
specifically welcome applicants contributing to cutting edge research in
practically oriented domains, such as data engineering, scalable
databases, data-base-as-a-service, systems and platforms for big data
analytics, data streams, semi-structured and multimedia data, meta-data
management and linked data. Experience with interdisciplinary
cooperation, for example in the digital humanities, is desired and
advantageous.

The prospective holder of the position is expected to establish an
independent research group and to show interest in shaping the field of
data science as a new research and teaching focus of the university. In
addition to the participation in self-administration, we expect the
willingness for cooperation within the department as well as with other
disciplines, including economics, engineering, humanities, and the
natural sciences. With its collaborative research center 901 "On-The-Fly
Computing" and other research institutes and cooperative projects, such
as the Software Innovation Campus Paderborn (SCIP) and the Paderborn
Center for Parallel Computing (PC^2), Paderborn University provides an
excellent infrastructure for cooperation of such kind. Depending on the
specialization and research focus of the candidate, the possibility of
an affiliation with the Heinz Nixdorf Institute will be considered. A
full command of the German language is not required right from the
start, however, foreign candidates should be prepared to learn German
within a fair amount of time.

Hiring requirements: § 36 Abs. 1 Ziff. 1 - 4 HG NW - University law of
the State of NRW - (completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude,
Ph.D. degree and additional research achievements).

Since Paderborn University seeks to increase the number of female
professors, applications of women are especially welcome. In case of
equal qualification and scientific achievements, they will receive
preferential treatment according to the North Rhine-Westphalian Equal
Opportunities Policy (LGG), unless there are co-gent reasons to give
preference to another applicant. Likewise, applications of disabled
people with appropriate qualification are explicitly requested. This
also applies to people with equal status according to the German social
law SGB IX.

For further information, please contact the Head of the Department of
Computer Science at Paderborn University, Prof. Dr. Holger Karl (Tel.
+49 5251 60 5375, hk...@mail.upb.de). Applications with the common
material, including a research and teaching plan, must be received by
11.01.2016 (Ref. No. 2427). Please send your application (preferably in
a single pdf file by e-mail to eim-...@uni-paderborn.de) to:
