Questions about developing App Inventor itself

I'm evaluating the possibility to get involved for developing and improving App Inventory itself and I need to clarify some points about that if it is possible of course.

I hope this is the right place where to make some questions like the following some questions about App Inventor

Is there a link online where to read synthetically about what means of getting Involved with AI developing?

In particular I want ask:

1. Is it necessary to have any particular prerequisite to participate the developing App Inventor itself?
   
2. What language is used for programming App Inventor itself?
   
3. What is the software to use for programming App Inventor itself?
4. What's the skill level necessary to participate developing of App Inventor itself?
   
5. Is there a possibility to download only the part of the source code a developer wants to modify or improve and integrate it into the AI public release after finished developing process?
   
6. Is there any economic award or revenue for people that helps, participate or get involved developing App Inventor or collateral activities or its developing is handled just by volunteers?
