Starting tonight, people who visit App Inventor Classic at beta.appinventor.mit.edu will see the following message:

The system at this web site is App Inventor Classic.

If you are creating new apps, or running classes with App Inventor, you should switch to App Inventor 2, which is available athttp://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu.

The App Inventor team will begin deprecating the App Inventor Classic system sometime this fall. Before that, we will provide a tool that will provide help in translating existing App Inventor projects to App Inventor 2. But if you are starting new projects, you should start them with App Inventor 2.

We have not set a date for withdrawing Classic, and we won't do that until after we release a tool to help people convert AI Classic projects to AI2.   But we do want to warn people -- especially people running classes -- not to start fall classes or new projects in Classic.

Hal,

Thanks for the warning. I taught AI in January 2013 with Classic, and again in January 2014 with AI2. I want to use Classic this year unless there is a debugger in AI2. Debugging is an important skill in learning to program.

When are you planning to introduce a debug/watch features in AI2?

AI2 has a debugger.    It is called  DoIt .    Unfortunately, the free online ebook on AI2 does not have a good explanation (http://www.appinventor.org/Chapter15)

However, Taifun does  explain it:  see his link for beginners here:  http://puravidaapps.com/learn.php

Regards,
Steve
