does any one know of any articles or documentation that compares app inventor to basic concepts in java?

In a nut shell  Java programming ... Eclipse and Android Studio primarily use Java code, have extensive tool boxes and programming libraries.  Read about AS here  http://developer.android.com/tools/studio/index.html  .  AS is a professional tool.

Read about AI2 here  appinventor.org/book2     .  AI2 is an entry level compiler for Android that can do lots of neat things, but only a small subset of what AS can do.

For most non-programmers 

AS                           AI2

Hard                          Easier (but not necessarily easy)

Java                         Blocks

Slow development      Relatively fast development

Free                         Free

Large toolbox            relatively small toolbox

Extensive libraries     not much but keeps getting better.

i mean more along the lines of :is there any information that compares how you use blocks in app inventor to how you program using java such as creating variables and procedures.
