Donald Trump must be tired of waiting for the House to impeach him.
Why else would he be doing everything he can think of to hasten the
process? He and those around him did everything Thursday but draw up
articles of impeachment.

His presidency has been a nonstop cascade of failure, misconduct,
malfeasance and blunders. But this has been the most disastrous week
yet. For anyone who held out hope that things can’t get worse, he has
made it clear that there is no limit to how far he will descend.

What a trifecta of wrongdoing has emerged. First, there was his
abrupt, chaotic pullout from Syria — betraying our Kurdish allies,
empowering the autocratic president of Turkey, delivering a gift to
the Syrian regime and opening up new space for Islamic State. So
inexplicable was his retreat that congressional Republicans rose up to
condemn it. But the lopsided House vote will be a cold comfort to the
Kurds who were so foolish as to trust us.

Then there was the brazen confession of acting White House chief of
staff Mick Mulvaney. For weeks, Trump, his aides and his allies on
Capitol Hill had insisted the president did not withhold security
assistance to Ukraine to force it to do investigations of Democrats —
which could help him in the 2020 elections

“That’s why we held up the money,” Mulvaney said, adding, “Get over
it.”As one congressional Republican told The Washington Post, “He
literally said the thing the president and everyone else said did not
happen.” Mulvaney later backtracked, thus demonstrating his
incompetence or his dishonesty.

Finally, Trump announced that he would hold the June summit of the G-7
countries at the Trump National Doral resort in Miami, forcing
hundreds of people to spend money at his property — and during a time
of year when business is typically slow. Fox News legal commentator
Andrew Napolitano said, “This is about as direct and profound a
violation of the emoluments clause as one could create.” Even if that
were not the case, it reeks of sleazy self-dealing.
