‘If this is the new normal, I want no part of it’: Citing Trump,
Iowa’s longest-serving Republican leaves party

Iowa’s longest-serving Republican legislator, state Rep. Andy McKean,
ditched the GOP on Tuesday as he offered a searing renunciation of
President Trump, saying he could no longer support Trump as the
party’s standard-bearer because of his "unacceptable behavior" and
"reckless spending."

McKean revealed he would join the Democratic Party, a decision he
described as "very difficult" after spending nearly a half-century as
a registered Republican and 26 years in the legislature. But
ultimately, he said, "I feel as a Republican that I need to be able to
support the standard-bearer of our party."

And "unfortunately," he said, he could not bring himself to support
Trump.

"Unacceptable behavior should be called out for what it is," he said
during the news conference at the Iowa Statehouse in Des Moines, "and
Americans of all parties should insist on something far better in the
leader of their country and the free world."

Good for him! It's a shame though that he couldn't be an Independent
instead of plugged into a Party teat. Yeah, I know about financial things
but no one should have to sell his/her soul.

Trump's tweeting behavior is aimed at his blue collar base, which is
opposed to previous "acceptable" Republican behavior.

32 years ago, Gary Hart's Monkey Business, "about the supposed
extramarital affairs of Sen. Gary Hart, the leading candidate for the
1988 Democratic nomination for President," was enough to eliminate a
candidate.

But, GOP base has been accepting of lewd and gross behavior. As a
humorist (Rex Huppke writes a twice-weekly humor(ish) column) noted,

"If you like Trump and HAVE read the 400-plus-page Mueller report, the
answer is, "No, we care more about our team winning than we do about
America. #MAGA."

Trump says he would challenge impeachment in Supreme Court -
President Trump on Wednesday said that he would attempt to challenge
impeachment in the Supreme Court if Democrats carried out such
proceedings, though it's unclear the high court would hear such a
case.

Former Trump Transition Official Calls For Impeachment:

J.W. Verret, a George Mason University law professor who served on
President Donald Trump’s transition team, is calling on Congress to
initiate impeachment proceedings in the wake of special counsel Robert
Mueller’s report.

"This is serious stuff," Verret told CNN’s Don Lemon in an interview
Tuesday. "The Mueller report I think is something you can’t look away
from. I mean you have to admit it: The emperor has no clothes."

totality of this conduct as evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors,"
the group said in the statement. "Accordingly, Congress, which carries
its own constitutional oversight responsibilities, should conduct
further investigation."
