Ahrma voted to allow Honda cb350 twins to use mikuni vm slide carbs next year. I have a pair of 28mm should I use them and save some money or do you think it would be better to use 30mm?

If you have them I would try them. Nothing to lose. They might work better on tighter tracks where throttle response is important over the vm30.

Woaa!  That's the best damn news I've had all month.

The VM30's will flow much better at higher RPM's (goood for the track).  The 28's will give more torque at lower RPM's (great for drive out of the corners).  You will have to rev the 30's higher before you can open the throttle full tilt.  The 28's not as much.  It all depends upon the track, gearing, and preferences.

With that said there are no VM28 aftermarket carburetors.  What you must have are OEM Mikuni VM28 carburetors made specifically for some model for some manufacturer.  Are these CV carbs?  The down side of this is getting tuning parts.  Some parts will interchange aftermarket to OEM but it's very likely there's some that won't.  And if they're CV carbs then I'd forget about em all together.

I'll be at RA again next year supporting our AHRMA racer's.  I have VM30 kits already tweaked for the 350's and would be interested in putting together some Keihin PE28 kits.  Anyone interested just PM me unless you think to be relevant community content.

Tim, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm pretty sure that rule change did not pass the final voting at the AHRMA Board of trustees meeting at Barber last Monday. If I'm understanding things correctly it was decided to keep the CB350 using the OEM factory carbs in Production Lightweight. Reasoning was that there are plenty of rebuild kits and whole carbs available for sale, supported by a recent article on rebuilding those carbs in Motorcycle Classics.

I may be wrong about this but I'd encourage you to hold off on spending any money until the final results are posted.

On the upside the cutoff date for AHRMA Production classes was moved up to 1978 excluding DOHC four cylinder bikes. So the pool of allowed bikes has gotten bigger. You might interpret this as allowing you to bolt a disc brake onto your CB350 but that's up to you to decide.
