Privacy, divorcing from Google ... is there ANYTHING you use from Google
that we can't replace with freeware on the Windows platform?

We've already easily eliminated Google accounts on iOS & Android, where
there's never a need for a Google ID or Google app.
o Is there any free FUNCTIONALITY that you need to do on Android, that you can't do WITHOUT a Google Account?
<https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.mobile.android/xzaii4eUY_E/WeY-r7_OAAAJ>

Is it the same on Windows?

Is there ANYTHING you use from Google that we can't replace with freeware?

Jeez, frankly I can't think of any program I use from Google but you
never know. Would be like them to hide behind other company names.

Like if Microsoft with W10 gives more privacy then Google.

It was abandoned or avoided by many, due spying supported and
performed by OS itself.

Whether you like it or not, your post today will end up on Google
Groups. I know that is cloudware (and not software in the sense of your
question), but if you are paranoid about Google - can I recommend that
you stop posting on Usenet?

Ah, my mistake... I had forgotten how many worthless trolls would post
for no purposefully helpful intent - but just for their childish amusement.

I should have noted that if you post & if I don't respond to your post,
o Your post was obviously deemed too worthless to even bother to respond to

And I will continue to refuse to respond to the worthless common trolls
o As a common courtesy to the rare few adults left on this newsgroup

The unique (likely) question remains valid, on topic, and useful:
o For example, on search engines alone, we can easily avoid Google search.

As just one example, and to add value to every post on Usenet
o Here is a work in progress first draft on available search engines

NOTE: This WIP file is designed to be loaded from a desktop shortcut.

helpful suggestion as to what search engines I may have missed?]

To the rare adult on this newsgroup...

I didn't think I needed to explain this but it seems that occam and Dan
Purgert, as always, prove to own the cognitive abilities of children.

For the benefit of the remaining adults on this newsgroup, I've explained
umpteen times how you can EASILY avoid using Google Groups to search the
Usenet archives, simply by using the non-Google-groups web-search engines.

For example:
o <http://alt.comp.os.windows-10.narkive.com>
o <http://alt.comp.freeware.narkive.com>
o <http://microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.narkive.com>

And, while it stinks, this non-google-groups web searchable Usenet archive:
o <http://tinyurl.com/alt-comp-os-windows-10>

Where those above are listed as replacements for these below:
o <http://tinyurl.com/windowsxp-general> (there's a 30-character limit)
o <http://tinyurl.com/alt-comp-freeware>]

Note EACH POST to Usenet should contain added on-topic technical value!

--
The problem with these two trolls is that they post with 0 helpful intent.
occam <oc...@invalid.nix> & Dan Purgert <d...@djph.net>
But what's worse, is that they _can't_ ever post with any helpful intent.
Just watch. They will add zero on-topic technical value to this thread.

More importantly, that they can only troll is on the permanent record.
For their grandchildren to enjoy, perhaps, since what we post is forever.

The two desktop tasks Google seems to do best (IMHO) are...
o search engines (of which there are many free replacements
o maps (of which ... traffic ... is perhaps the hardest to replace)

If any adults are on this newsgroup who know how to replace
o maps (e.g., seeing what's in any given area, e.g., at the road level)
o traffic

That would be very useful on-topic adult technical information to share.

Usenet is a public potluck where adults share useful tidbits of value.

I use Google's search engine to search for porn sites. You have stopped
posting your list of open source porn sites that we found it very
useful. When are you going to post version 5.3.5 of your wonderful open
source porn sites that we could use instead of using Google Search?

Please reply soon.

The obvious one, to my mind, is twitter

https://twitter.com/search?q=SEARCH1[+SEARCH2...]

I'm presuming Fakekook has its own search engine too, a site I use so rarely
I'm not sure. Some tech sites such as stackoverflow or stackexchange have
their own search boxes (not 100% sure if they use Google behind the scenes).
Many of the search portals query the Google database so have to supply
Google with data mining info if I understand correctly though they might
work without JavaScript which may be of some value.

Hi Spamblk,

Thank you for being a rare adult on Usenet who, in contrast to the
common trolls listed below, shares purposefully helpful information
(where, clearly, most of the responses to date were from trolls
who posted merely for their own childish amusement).

I've added the Twitter search, which is, of course, a 'specialty search'.
o (t) Twitter - specialty

You brought up a good point as the original list wasn't well vetted.

The original list was a list I maintain for myself, which I only posted
in response to the trolls who claimed you couldn't replace Google,
where I probably should separate the 'specialty' searches from the
general searches.

Since every Usenet post should impart value, I edited the previously
posted listing such that the specialty searches have dropped to the
bottom, and, in reality, should be lopped off most likely.

In addition, there are "privacy" searches which are important enough
that they likely should also be listed separately, and brought to the top.

In contrast to the trolls who expend little energy in every post
(hence, imparting no value whatsoever), I've edited the original
listing to contain those two subgroups, for all to benefit from.

Adding value, here's revision 1 of that previously posted search list.
o Where the intention is to eliminate Google wherever feasible.

I'm sure there are errors & omissions, where adults are asked
to review the list to make suggestions for improvement.

While the common trolls (see list in the sig) proved in this thread that
they can't possibly comprehend even simple facts, the fact is replacing
Google requires thinking about direction, traffic, & streetview solutions.

To that end, it would be nice to ask what adults already use for direction,
traffic, and streetview, if it's not Google Maps.

Googling, there's a LOT of information to digest on the topic.

If anyone on Usenet has experience with these Google alternatives,
it would be great for you to impart value as to what you think of them.

Particularly useful would be features that replace Google Maps
directions, traffic, and streetview functionality.

That's where he stores the "hundreds of helpful tutorials" he
claims to have written.
I'm too scared to go there. Isn't that the place they call the
"Darknet"? Probably reeks of rotten Onion.

I believe he's up to "ten thousand" nowadays.

Shadow <S...@dow.br> joins the list of childish worthless trolls.

Note: This list of people, we PREDICT ahead of time, can not, and did not
add even a single iota of on-topic technical value to the thread.

They're all so worthless, they can be predicted, accurately, in advance!
o This is in the permanent Usenet archives, for our grandkids to read.

The thread added value, on topic, technical, and yet, the trolls add none.
o Even _responding_ to the trolls, adds _negative_ value.

So this is the last response in this thread to these common trolls...

o Snit <use...@gallopinginsanity.com> (aka Michael Glasser, troll's troll)
o Wolffan <akwo...@zoho.com> (can only post childish remarks)
o Wolf K <wol...@sympatico.ca> (always posts as a child)
