Weather:
As expected, the wind was howling out of the northwest, gusting strong
enough to cause large trees to sway and sending swarms of leaves spiraling
through the air. Clouds and blue fought for equal control of the sky, with
clouds winning out in the end. Temperatures climbed to the low 50s.

Raptor Observations:
Few birds stayed high for long today, and even the Bald Eagles seemed a
little unsteady in the stronger gusts. One of the Sharp-shinned Hawks came
in low through the gap only to dash back to the trees as soon as it blew
over the summit.

Non-raptor Observations:
Black-capped Chickadees, Blue-headed Vireos, and Eastern Phoebes worked to
make themselves heard over the whistling wind. Yellow-rumped and Pine
Warblers worked over the junipers in search of shelter-seeking insects, and
more than one Dark-eyed Junco launched itself towards better cover from a
springboard twig.

Non-raptor Migrants:
Double-crested Cormorant- 12  
Barn Swallow (southbound)-1  
Tree Swallow (southbound)- 4

Predictions:
Tomorrow looks much more promising for migrants. The wind will still be out
of the northwest, but it will only be blowing at 5-10mph. With ample
sunshine, temperatures will make a run at 60F. There's the potential for a
good flight with birds backed up from two days of bad weather and another
system on its way for the start of the weekend.
