Last week Microsoft finally added IMAP to hotmail/outlook/msn. It is still quite buggy, but some MailDroid users have had success using it. Most users are currently on POP which does not allow showing folders and many other features (technical limitations of POP3). With Microsoft IMAP you will get folders, sync read/unread, and show flags. You still won't get push though, as Microsoft has not turned on the IMAP Idle command yet.

If you want to try it, you need to first remove (you can't edit) your pop account (long-press the account on the accounts screen, delete account). Then set it up this way:

1. Email/Password
2. Manual
3. IMAP
4.

Incoming: imap-mail.outlook.com, port 993, SSL/TLS should be checked
Outgoing: smtp-mail.outlook.com, port 587, SSL/TLS should be checked

Error in sending via outlook.com:

I use outlook.com via IMAP in my Maildroid. Over the past few days, I noticed errors when sending email through Outlook.com. I tried deleting and recreating the account with the settings mentioned below. Kept receiving the same error. Finally, recreated the account via Auto Setup, which set it up as a POP3 account. Immediately, I received an (automated) email from Outlook.com member services asking me to sign in before I could send email via an application.
Clicking on the sign in link in the email on the phone took me to a live.com sign in page, and signing in took me to my outlook.com inbox - mobile version. Still no luck with email sending. Visitng the same link via my desktop took me to the same live.com sign in page. However, after siging in, I reached a CAPTCHA page. Solving the CAPTCHA seemed to unlock the send via application functionality.

I then went back to my phone, deleted my POP3 account for Outlook.com and recreated it as IMAP. Sending email is now working smoothly.

tl;dr version:
1. Delete Outlook.com IMAP account.
2. Recreate via auto setup. This will create as POP3 (unfortunately!)
3. Receive an email from outlook.com member services team containing link to live.com sign in page.
4. Visit the page via desktop - important! Sign in, you are taken to CAPTCHA page.
5. Solve the CAPTCHA to unlock send via application functionality.
6. Back to phone. Delete POP3 account, recreate as IMAP as mentioned above.
7. Send and receive normally.
