Hello,

I have been assigned to configure Load generator for the load test. Previous project where i worked before, we use to have tools team and they were responsible for all tools installation and validation.

Some of the things (As stated in step1)i am currently following to configure the load generator and need help/advise from expert to suggest if i am missing any steps.

1)Since there is no load generator machines, i have requested our management team to provide 5 to 6 Laptops/Desktop with good configurations , so that we can install Load generator agents on the machine and use it as LG during our test. Is this correct way to do?

So my question is,

Just by installing the Load generator agent on those machines would be enough or should we do any other configurations further?

Do we have do any configurations to connect Controller and LG?

Please advise and advice on detail steps on how to configure load generator and Controller.

Thanks in Advance.

You will have to open ports for communication between Controller and Generator.

We have to give the IP Address of the load generator machine to the controller where it is deployed.

Controller and LGs communicate through ports..you need to open ports in controller and in all LGs

I ll check those and share

Thank you all.
I was basically looking at the steps on installing and configuring the Load genertor nd Controller.

I have asked our team to build the VM server with Windows 2008 R2 as server os and install LR and Controller(PC) on two diff machines.

Can you point on how to install and configure the Performance Center? I haven't read the manual yet, but if you can elaborate few points/steps , so that i can take as reference.

Thanks in advance.

Read the documentation first, before you do anything.

Before you install on a virtual machine, install on a physical machine and understand how it performs there.

Before you accept the guidance from someone who does not understand what you do or why you do it but are mandating that you install your components on a virtual machine then you may want to consult threads going back as far as eight years on the issues associated with clock float inside of virtual machines and how this impacts your timed events (i.e. transactions) on all tools.   You will also want to understand what this means for test initial and in-test conditions associated with test repeatability associated with the arbitrated access to resources from the virtual machine to the physical machine with the test is underway.

A performance center installation is a decidedly non trivial matter.   There are many architectural components and a lot of moving parts.  This is not something that yo do solo the first time.  You have someone who has successfully installed and configured PC/ALM there to be your mentor and guide you through installation number one.  This is coming from someone who has been installing and using Mercury, then HP tools, for over two decades now.

if you are going to run a test of any value, then the last thing you want is to have a challenged test bed that is going to result in inconsistent performance in test execution.  For then you will legitimately have every developer whose baby (code) you have called ugly (non performant) questioning whether you need glasses (are effective in your role).
