I would like to start a thread here to compose a list of requirements for a good smart home controller. These can be requirements that are already met by Loxone or not.
The list should be divided in 2 groups: must requirements and nice-to-have requirements (the latter should be prioritized).
This list can then be used to put pressure on Loxone to implement some of these requirements, and to assess the fit with alternative solutions.

My requirements are:

must
  • extensive IP implementation, including SSL, authentication mechanisms, redirects, so
    • access to the controller can be secure
    • direct integration with secure webservices is possible (e.g. Google Nest)
  • full KNX support
  • fast/easy creation of a user interface
nice-to-have
  1. GSM to call out with detailed spoken alarm messages, and DTMF interaction.
  2. possibility to build custom function blocks, in a complete programming language.
  3. tight/easy integration with wireless protocols and other verdor's products:
    1. Zigbee: to directly control Philips Hue, Osram Lightify lamps and other products
    2. EnOcean
    3. Z-Wave
  4. tight/easy integration with wired protocols
    1. Wiegand: to connect security and access control products
    2. rs232/rs485
    3. 1-wire
    4. DMX
Please tell us what your requirements would be. After we have some basic list from the members here, I'm willing to set up a poll and post it in the other Loxone forums to get their input and votes as well.

You're asking on a Loxone forum.  Pretty much anyone on here is going to say 'yes' to that question.

It's not perfect but in terms of power/flexibility/cost it was when we made the decision to use it.

I picked up a Wiegand to RS232 converter http://www.macapsinc.com/php/converter.php which works well on my RFID keypad.  I'm not even using the software that came with the keypad, just importing the numbers into Loxone and I made my own software to add / remove RFID tags or pushbutton codes.  So far it works well but I admit, if Loxone had a Wiegand extension it would probably make life much easier.
