Arduino workshop for beginners - registration now open

Hi all

Here are the details for the Arduino workshop in partnership with London Arduino, announced first on this thread. This workshop has been created for complete beginners but we aim to have more advanced content in the future.

All details are on the registration page, but here is the key info:

When/where: Sat 6th Feb from 10 to 4pm in the classroom
Workshop teacher: Lily Madar
Max participants: 10
Price: £45 + £3.67 eventbrite fees (for info we're paying the teacher and give a £150 donation to the space)

I'm using Eventbrite, not because I enjoy it, but because we always had people dropping out at the last minute in the past, and it's easier to manage the waiting list and transfers.
Like I mentioned in the announcement thread, we will save some spots to improve diversity among attendees.

I'll update the wiki with these details shortly, let me know if any questions.

Hi all

Yesterday we had lots of fun running the Arduino workshop in the classroom. We received really positive feedback from participants about the event and the space.
I'm specially glad that we had 50/50 male/female and diversity among participants.

For those who are looking at running their own workshop, here are a few learnings from yesterday:

- The classroom TV screen might be massive but because it's located on the side, it can be difficult for people at the back to read slides. Ideally bring your own video-projector (The 2 we have in the space don't work).
- It gets quite cold in the classroom when the heating is not on, even with many people inside, so wait for a warmer season or ask to change the heating time for a day.
- Don't underprice the ticket. Between the trainer, the donation for the space, the kits, the discounted tickets for members, we barely covered the costs!
- Setting up a Slack channel for the participants can be useful: From there they can receive code, images and ask questions
- Don't expect the classroom to be clean, so if you care about that come early for a cleaning session
- If your attendees are non members, it's really worth organising a quick tour of the space at lunchtime
- Add A LOT of directions details on how to get to the space, it is not as easy to find as you might think for a first time visitor.

I'm glad it went well Marc. Setting up a Slack channel sounds like a good idea!

Hi Marc,
Many thanks to Lily and yourself for the workshop on Saturday.
I had problems reading off the TV screen, but having the Slack channel more than compensated for that. Many thanks for the personal explanations when I'd failed to get it during the first attempt.
I'd be happy to pay more if you have to bump up the price to make it worthwhile for yourselves.
