Hi all

I’d like to organise a group visit of the space, in a similar format to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation one we had in June, minus the filming crew.

About the group: They are a group of public service workers involved in a scholarship to support innovation in the public sector. I am helping organise visits for this programme and I thought the Hackspace would be a great place to inspire them.

When: between October 28 and November 1 (tbc), obviously outside hackspace calendar events.

Format: tour, talk / show and tell of makers projects in the classroom (about an hour in the classroom). The whole visit should take 2 hours. We might take a few pictures but people will be briefed about the hackspace rules on that subject.

Visitors: between 20 and 30 (tbc), including 2 organisers

I’ve negotiated a donation for the space of £150.

As for the last visit, I would take responsibility for the group and make sure we do not disrupt other members or be on fire.

Let me know what you think.

cheers

Marc

Hi all

We're now looking at Thursday 31st Oct from 6.30pm. I talked to Music Hackpace and they will be at Troygarnic that night.

I'd like to book the classroom from 6pm to 9pm, I'm guessing we won't need it that long but I just want to make sure the group will have a space during the visit where they can chat without interfering with the members' work. As mentioned we will have there some members showcasing projects and probably a talk about Open Source / Manufacturing or similar.

We will use eventbrite for ticketing this (free) visit, to make sure who / how many visitors from this programme are coming, and also announce the visit on twitter via @HubLaunchpad account (without make it sound like LHS endorsement).

Thanks, and let me know if any comments or objections.

Hi all

So quick update about the visit of the group on Thursday:
- The group will arrive from 6.30pm and will be directed to the classroom.
- After the tour, Tom will open the LHS Bikeshed (thanks!) and we'll have members showcasing their work in the classroom, then a couple speakers, including Jonty.
End of event around 9.

We can still do with a couple makers showing briefly their creations, show of hands who's in?

thanks

M

Hi all

Just a reminder that this event is tonight.

We will have a group of about 25-30 people arriving from 6.30 in the classroom.
After a tour of the space, some of our members will showcase their projects (Sarah, Ian...) and give talks (Alice, Mark Lomas, Jonty) in the classroom (also Tom with the Caravan). Event should be done by 9 though we're inviting all members to chat with them after the talks.

I have 2 other people to help me manage the group, we will have somebody at the door to welcome people but if you encounter a lost visitor from this group please direct him/her towards the classroom!

Thanks to all for your participation and for your help.

Huge thank you to all for participating. I think it's fair to say it went very well (have a look on twitter for confirmation). Some of the visitors are living nearby and will become members, others said they will come back with friends on the open day.

Special thanks to our speakers and makers: Ian, Alice, Sarah, Mark, Jonty, John Nussey, Jasper, Tom, Steve, Paul and for all who contributed.

They were a nice group. And it was good to get to chat to the other members who were speaking - haven't been at the space much recently, but it was a good reminder of what an excellent place the Hackspace is.
