Hey, I don't know if anybody else uses this feature of chrome but I use it everywhere.

If you start typing a website into the address bar and google recognizes it as something that has a search field, you can hit tab and start typing a query.  e.g. I probably type out "en.wik{TAB}<something I want to learn about>{ENTER}" about 20 times a day.

With that as the context; when I start typing in vlasisku.lojban.org I get that same option, "Search Lojban dictionary", but then when I hit tab and type my query like "julne", it takes me to "vrici:8000/vlasisku/julne".

Does anybody have any ideas about what might be happening here?

I'm seeing it as well. This feature works because the site uses an
understood data format to tell the browser how to search it, and I
would guess that data is wrong. It has been right before, but I guess
it must've changed. My guess would be it's the address of the local
test server used for developing it.

You're right, the problem appears to be that the opensearch XML
specified here: http://vlasisku.lojban.org/vlasisku/opensearch/ is
giving search engines the wrong URLs.

Cool.  From what I understand, the folks who have access to the lojban.org server are:

Stephen Weeks, Arnt Johansen, and Ted Reed all have the required
access.  They are on IRC as Tene, Broca, and treed, respectively.

If I haven't heard from any of these folks in the next day or so I'll get on IRC and see if any of them are around.

If anybody else has access to the lojban.org server that isn't on this list please feel free to take care of this (and reply here letting us know of your powers so we can keep a public listing of who we can bug when the server has problems (besides robin))

That particular code is donri's (aka Dag Odenhall (sp?)). No-one
else is likely to be fixing it, assuming that I understood correctly
and it's a vlasisku problem and not a webserver problem.

So the only way to use tab functionality is to replace vlasisku search engine manually.
Search string should be http://vlasisku.lojban.org/?query=%s

I've fixed it now by hardcoding it to vlasisku.lojban.org. The issue
was that the URL generation depended on the Host header which is
vrici:8000 due to the internal forwarding used (the opensearch
standard requires full, external URLs).

I should add that you'll have to refetch the opensearch description.
In Firefox this means removing the search engine and adding it again.
Chrome adds it automatically, and I have no idea how that works with
caching.

Sorry, how do you make this work in Firefox? Is it some kind of plugin?

To remove the bad search URL in chrome, go to  chrome://settings/searchEngines and remove vlasisku from the list. Once you delete that, it'll re-pull it.

The search bar next to the URL bar. If you click the icon or arrow you
should see 'Add "Lojban dictionary"' at the end of the menu.

That's how it works in Chrome, not Firefox.

You can configure a keyword for search engines though.

I've made keywords for jboski and .camxes.. These are both online parsers, otherwise known as grammar-check. They both support passing information via web-link: .camxes.: pisu'o cevni cu prami re'e ko jboski: pisu'o cevni cu prami re'e ko

Neither of these have a search bar for them, however, so making a keyword for them has to be done manually.

.camxes. -> "http://camxes.lojban.org/camxes/?text=%s"
jboski -> "http://www.lojban.org/jboski/index.php?jbocku=%s"

For example, this is the html export from my bookmarks on Firefox:

<DT><A HREF="http://camxes.lojban.org/camxes/?text=%s" ADD_DATE="1329683038" LAST_MODIFIED="1329683302" SHORTCUTURL="cx">camxes</A>
<DT><A HREF="http://www.lojban.org/jboski/index.php?jbocku=%s" ADD_DATE="1329683038" LAST_MODIFIED="1329683172" SHORTCUTURL="jb">jboski</A>

I don't know how to add terms for Chrome, but I'm sure one of you can figure it out.
