Hi all,

Now it’s time to kickstart the transition process towards the new structure and methodology. The Structure Team has brainstormed some next steps in the process, and open the discussion up to you now for your comments and input.

Please comment directly on this document (most of you will already have access, but if not, please send a request):
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uXnlR1wzeH5oktJr1IfbNrkzQL99haT-4d-y6K4wjOE and reply directly to this email thread for longer discussions.

During this entire process, and until the vote for the new board of directors takes place, the current leadership teams (PLT, CLT and the board of directors) will continue to function as always, and are asked not to add new members, except as needed to carry out the daily work of the team. Several months from now, when the transition phase ends with a vote for the new board of directors, these leadership teams (PLT, CLT and the current board of directors), as well as the transition team, will be dissolved.

Please allow 7 days of discussion on the above. Then we will have a majority vote on the alternatives we can vote on. This vote will be conducted using the same voting process that was used for the structure vote, with all three leadership teams voting.

Proposed Timeline
Discussion June 1 - June 8
Vote June June 8 - June 15
Voting results & blog posted June 16
Call for transition team nomination June 17 - June 30
Transition team selection July 1 - July 8
Transition team is announced July 9
Structure team is dissolved July 9

Best regards,
The Structure Team

Hi everyone,

In four days the structure team needs to prepare a motion to be brought before all of you to vote on the next steps in forming the Transition Team so that team can begin implementing the new adopted structure and methodology.

  • What do you think about the size of the team? Does 5 - 9 members sound good? Maybe setting a range is better than a fixed number.

  • Who should be on the team? I think we need people with the specific experience of working through an organizational transition, as much as possible. I do not think it should not be made up entirely of current members of leadership (one of the options in the document). I don't even know that we need a liaison from each team. We need people who have experience and are sensitive to the particular challenges of a transition period, and who have the time to work on it, because it's going to be a significant time commitment.

  • How will the nominations and vote to select the members of the Transition Team take place? We are conducting business and voting on the public list lately - will it be the same for this nominations and voting process? What do people think about that?

Best regards,
Alice

Thanks for following up on this Alice, I've added my thoughts/comments to the shared Google Doc, is this where you want the comments to be left?

The process in which you vote is entirely different than the
transition process.

the voting needs to be figured out and agreed up before we can move
forward. The team that figures out the voting process could be tasked
to the old governance team or put out for nominations. (just thinking
outloud) I'd suggest focusing on that before moving to any other
stage.

the transition - it's important to involve the current team leaders
every step of the way. I'd offer the current team leads to assist in
implementing the transition process once we figure out how all the
nominations and voting will work. as for requirements a deep
understanding of the culture, politics and how the team works is a
prerequisite for leadership success—and even survival. I can't imagine
myself walking into the Joomla Docs team expecting transition when i
don't understand their day to day tasks.

Hi Ruth,

Comments on the doc are fine - thanks.

Hi Jessica - if I'm understanding your point about voting, I think the motion that is about to be put before leadership covers what you are saying about the transition team selection process.

Thanks very much to both of you for the input.

Best regards,
Alice
