Hello everyone!

We are pleased to announce that release candidate packages for pre-release testing of the upcoming 2.5.17 and 3.2.1 releases are now available.  Please note that these are *NOT* intended for use on a production website; these packages are made available for pre-release testing to ensure a smooth update process and that there are no critical issues preventing normal operation of the CMS.

Here are the links to the download packages:

Updates can be tested from within the CMS by setting the options for the update component so that the Update server is set to Testing.

If any bugs are encountered during testing, please report them to the Issue Tracker at http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemBrowse&tracker_id=8103 so they can be reviewed and patched.

Tracker seems broken. I click on any summary on the Issue Tracker and I
get:
Error
Call to undefined function renderAssociationList()

Michael, is there an easy way to find out what's been changed to focus the testing?

Thanks in advance.

For those who prefer to read code, I'd suggest https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/compare/3.2.0...master for 3.2.1 and https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/compare/2.5.16...2.5.x for 2.5.17 to see the commit-by-commit changes.  For those looking for tracker items, http://developer.joomla.org/version-3-2-1-release-notes.html currently encompasses all tracker activity since the last release date (still need to go through and filter out the 2.5 specific items from there and create the 2.5.17 page).

If anyone is interested in testing this password security enhancement patch for 2.5, it would be greatly appreciated.

Getting this merged will provide the same level of password security in 2.5 that we have in 3.2, so it is a good thing. Did I mention it is completely BC?

Would it be possible to get into the habit of putting the test
procedures in the pull requests?

This was confirmed by 4 individual testers on Joomlacode. Why is this not in the 2.5.17 release where we have tested as idiots to get this resolved before release?

What is "this" that you are talking about?

Andrew, Leo is referring to the password security enhancement that we spend a lot of time on the past few days that didn't make it into the release due to timing. I put the call out for testers often, but didn't get many until late last night (partly due to me updating the code a couple times to fix remaining bugs).

I am frustrated about it as well, because it did take up extra time, but it was stated at the time that we were in code freeze, and this wasn't a bug with the RC, just a security enhancement that we've needed for a while, so it didn't qualify as important enough to delay the release. Understandable, I know Michael has a lot going on right now personally and wasn't going to be able to do releases any other day except today.

Sorry Leo - it will make it into 2.5.18 for sure. Thanks for testing.

Thanks, I just couldn't work out what "this" was in the context of the
statement.

Hi Brody

This list is only for announcements and it is not for discussions. Please use the JCMS mailing list instead. See https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/joomla-dev-cms.

On a sidenote: Joomla 3.2.1 requires PHP 5.3.1, not 5.2. See http://www.joomla.org/technical-requirements.html for the technical requirements.

Kind regards
Thomas
