Is there a document yet with all the changes that need to be made to extensions from 3.3 to 3.4? if any.

Thanks
Rob

There should be no changes necessary to an extension to properly work
with 3.4. 3.4 is a minor release, which means that no backward
compatibility breaks are allowed. For that to happen, we'd have to bump
the version number to 4.0.

Tested today upgrade from J336 to J34 though extension manager. Works fine. So far tested Akeebabackup/Admin Tools, JCE, Nonumber stuff, Yootheme Warp (some templates), Widgetkit, ACLmanager, Mijoshop, Mijosearch, Mijosef, Breezingforms, Easydiscuss, Acymailing, jEvents, com_patchtester, so far no issues. Only issue I see is that ACL Manager tells me that on a fresh Joomla install we are missing over 60 entries in the Assets table. Should we worry about that?

Hi,
I have just tried to upgrade from v3.3.6 to v3.4.0 alpha ( Joomla_3.4.0-alpha-Alpha-Update_Package.zip ).
I was not able to do, it uploading a package file, via the extension manager because the option POST Max Size of my PHP was 8MB (post_max_size=8M).

So, I tried to install it from a directory, and I received that error.

Duplicate entry '801' for key 'PRIMARY' SQL=INSERT INTO `jom3_extensions` (`extension_id`, `name`, `type`, `element`, `folder`, `client_id`, `enabled`, `access`, `protected`, `manifest_cache`, `params`, `custom_data`, `system_data`, `checked_out`, `checked_out_time`, `ordering`, `state`) VALUES (801, 'weblinks', 'package', 'pkg_weblinks', '', 0, 1, 1, 0, '', '', '', '', 0, '0000-00-00 00:00:00', 0, 0);

With a new installation of the Joomla 3.4.0 alpha.

Using NoNumber Extension Manager, installing extensions randomly:

1. Extension for Dummy Content:
Fatal error: Class 'plgSystemDummyContentHelperDiacritics' not found in /home4/intel/public_html/joomla3-4-alpha/plugins/system/dummycontent/helpers/helpers.php on line 51

2. Cache cleaner: works fine

3. Tooltips: works fine

4. Modules Anywhere: works fine

Thanks
Omar

Omar, I can't confirm this:

Upgraded Akeeba Backup (Pro) from 4.0.5 (which was already installed) to 4.1.0-rc2 without issues, **but** I'm getting a white page when I try to access it. This is something I think has already been addressed in Akeeba Backup support forum, so it probably has nothing to do with Joomla! 3.4.0-dev...

This has been addressed dozens of times at the Akeeba forums without much result. Blame is being put on one's PHP version (nonsense since 4.0.5 works even on PHP 5.3.3 installs of some of our clients). For sure not a 3.4.0 version issue (we had that issue on a Joomla 2.5.27  install last week where Akeebabackup 4.0.5  works and the latest version --> 4.1.0-rc2 after upgrade shows a white page with well documented error reporting--> of course not a bug of Akeeba..........

I tried the update on a 'live' site I'm developing for release in early 2015. I cloned it to the same environment (LAMP) before applying the update.
Original J! 3.3.6
Linux Kernel 2.6.32-531.23.3
Apache 2.2.29
MySQL 5.5.36-cl-lve
PHP 5.4.33

Upon completion of the update I was presented with:
1060 Duplicate column name 'extra_query' SQL=ALTER TABLE `#_update_sites` ADD COLUMN `extra_query` VARCHAR(1000) DEFAULT '';

The database prefix in the above string has been changed from the original. I was never greeted with a success message, but it seems that the update was successful.

The following are working as expected:
Template - Shaper Helix 2 w/ Framework & Shortcode Generator
Aikon Super Preloader
Akeeba Backup
AllVideos (JW)
Atom Twitter Feeds
Mod LCA
Rokbox
SP Google Chart
SP News Highlighter
SP Page Builder
SP Social
Unite Revolution Slider 2
Xmap

I also noticed that the ID number of the articles still appears when using Category Blog Layout. Are the changes to the router being implemented in this upgrade? I'm curious because this site won't go live for a bit and I'm wondering if I should bother with a SEF extension or not.

Thanks,
Will

I can confirm the same behavior with the free version. The backup worked on J! 3.4-dev using AB 4.0.3, but the update to the 4.1.0-rc2 only offers me a WPOD.

Sergio why don’t you just update to 5.5.18 which is also a lot faster? (I know not exactly the answer to the problem here, but running your code against latest php/mysql/apache is always a good thing, performance wise)

Dimitris, this was on my on-line managed VPS, where (for other reasons) I have to keep 5.3.x
In my localhost I have 5.2.17, 5.3.29, 5.4.33, 5.5.16 and 5.6.1. Yes, some of them should be updated to their latest minor!

<OT>did you got my Skype IM? I think is important...</OT>

Sergio I am aware of that. What I mentioned was that 4.0.5 worked and works (after reinstalling 4.0.5) with that setting on the client site's server where it is not suppose to work as per directive of Akeeba. The 4.1.0-RC2 works fine though as stated on our own servers with PHP 5.4.xx

Yes, and what I'm saying is that you didn't had ground to pretend it working on an unsupported PHP version, while I, with 5.3.28, have it.

Right which is correct and I agree but I did not bring the Akeebabackup in this forum and I just replied with the fact that it is no Joomla 3.4 bug. That was countered in the way it was (and I am entitled to reply to unfounded replies)  but I will contact Mr. Manzi beyond this board to discuss this

Hi Will,
I could simply say that I wrote in my initial proposal that the new
router would hopefully be in Joomla 3.5, but that would be a bit easy.
Joomla 3.4 took quite some time and according to my proposed schedule,
it should have been in 3.4 already. Unfortunately, I miscalculated the
amount of time necessary for this by most likely a magnitude... There
are personal issues which stalled the work and then there are
Joomla-process related issues that stalled this further. In any case,
some changes have been included in 3.4 already and depending on several
different aspects, more could be merged into 3.4 before it is officially
released.

However, the complete routing changes will not be done then. And you
should also be aware, that in a default installation, the URLs also wont
change either. Removing the IDs will only be an option at one place.

Is this expected (being this an alpha)?

Akeeba Backup 4.0.5 was already installed on my "online" system (an upgraded 3.3.6) but untested under J! 3.4.0 Alpha.
On my localhost (fresh 3.4.0 Alpha Install) Akeeba Backup 4.0.5 too is experiencing the very same issue.

This is purely cosmetic (and hence subjective), but I hate the new non dismissible red alert and blue button displayed in the top of the back-end area when extension updates are available. Come on, we already have the red alert in the left pane...

And to add insult to the injury, if you click the "Update Now" button (OMG... what will this will do? A "silent update"? It says "Now"...), well you are greeted by a reassuring message stating that "There are no updates available at the moment. Please check again later.". Wait... I know there are updates available... ah yes, old story: I have to click "Find Updates" in here!!!

Thanks Hannes,

I just saw that they accepted a few of your PR's and wondered if that was one of them.

I'm looking forward to having Category Blog Links without item ID's.

Thanks again!

As a follow-up and after discussing the thing with Peter van Westen (NoNumbers), it seems there can be situations where "Dummy Content" does not work unless other NoNumber's extensions are installed. This will be fixed with the next rev of "Dummy Content" and has nothing to do with Joomla 3.4.0

Hi Sergio

Thanks for the follow up and clarifications. Much appreciated.

I'll keep on checking the new install of 3.4.0 Alpha.

Out of curiosity: is there a timeframe for the Beta release?

I would like to setup a 3.4.0 Alpha multilingual test environment.

Now, maybe this is a stupid question, but...

In "Language Manger" none of the major languages is present: only some seldom used languages are proposed like Montenegrin, Uyghur, Syriac, etc... (and of course with all due respect to the speakers of the mentioned languages!)

How can I proceed?

Thanks!

Forget it! Clicking on "Find languages" did the trick.

But why those seldom used languages are listed by default?

Hi,
I have just tried to upgrade from v3.3.6 to v3.4.0 alpha ( Joomla_3.4.0-alpha-Alpha-Update_Package.zip ).
I was not able to do, it uploading a package file, via the extension manager because the option POST Max Size of my PHP was 8MB (post_max_size=8M).

So, I tried to install it from a directory, and I received that error.

Updated through com_joomlaupdate. No errors. I was on 3.3.6
Database Version 5.5.40-MariaDB
PHP Version 5.4.16
Web Server Apache
WebServer to PHP Interface apache2handler

So far I've found no problems with these extensions (already installed):
Jcal Pro
JCE
JEVENTS
Widgetkit (updated from 1.5.3. to 1.5.5)
Form2Content Pro

Hi,
You are right. Thank you!
I noticed that because there was not an error message when I tried to upload the package, and its size exceeded the allowed one.
It was only possible to learn more about that error from log files.

It will be good if the system displays an error message about that problem.
I guess, many shared hosting providers set those options to 8MB by default.

Cheers,
T

I found a backwards compatibility issue with Kunena, Kunena installer hangs on Preparing installation.

So there is a B/C Issue somewhere

Confimed. Not solved by #5189. Returning to /adiministrator/index.php and completing Kunena installation does succeed  (but I had #5189 applied at that time...).

Jelle, maybe you should open an issue at http://issues.joomla.org/ ...

I can confirm that Kunena is failing. The reason is absence of mootools since the error is:

undefined is not a function (evaluating 'window.addEvent’)

Bottom line their installer should have a call to mootools if is needed!

Some info from my side since this is happening due to my PR #4888

In that pull request I removed all the mootools calls form toolbar’s buttons, and introduced core (core + jquery) in the layouts files.

If this brings much inconvenience I guess I can revert the part of exchanging mootools with jquery (lets do it in layouts so people can override it!)

So kindly asking for some input from the PLT here, shall I revert this part?

My two cents - If you have a dependency on Mootools, you load it yourself and you don't depend on someone loading it for you.  Same goes for jQuery.
