Field Organizer – Houston Mayoral Race

Help elect Sylvester Turner as the next mayor of Houston in the most competitive race of 2015!

The Sylvester Turner for Mayor Campaign is seeking full-time Field Organizers for an aggressive volunteer field operation to help elect current State Representative Sylvester Turner in the 2015 Houston mayoral contest. Houston is the 4th largest, and one of the fastest growing cities in the country, and this year has an open mayoral race. The election is non-partisan and will see a large field of candidates; ultimately, this will be the most competitive and important election in the 2015 election cycle. Those battle-tested in Houston this year will be ready to be on the front lines in 2016 and beyond.

Field Organizers are responsible for building a grassroots network of volunteers capable of turning out enough voters to deliver the margin of victory within their assigned region.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Recruiting (via direct volunteer recruitment call time), managing, and training volunteers to participate in direct voter contact activities – namely canvassing and phonebanking.
  • Meeting and exceeding strict daily, weekly, and monthly goals including volunteer recruitment dials, volunteer shift recruitment, volunteer shift completion, and volunteer productivity.
  • Preparing all canvass and call materials for volunteer activities.
  • Adhering to a strict daily reporting schedule and chain of command.
Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully relate to voters and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Local experience working in or around Houston is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours in a fast paced, metrics driven work environment.
  • History or experience working in a multi-ethnic and multi-racial environment is a plus; Houston is now the most diverse large city in America.
  • Basic computer literacy, database skills, and access to a reliable portable computer.
  • Reliable access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
  • One year of campaign experience or community organizing experience preferred but not necessary.
  • Knowledge of Votebuilder preferred but not necessary.
