Senior Director, State & Local Campaigns

 

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest financial resource for women candidates, is in search of a Senior Director, State & Local Campaigns to join our Campaigns team. Throughout our 29 year history, EMILY’s List has recruited and trained over 9,000 women to run, worked to elect over 100 pro-choice Democratic women to the House, 19 to the Senate, 11 governors, and over five hundred women to state and local office. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY’s List helped elect 97% of the Democratic women of color in Congress, including every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic woman currently serving.

 

Principal Responsibilities

 

The Senior Director Campaigns, State and Local manages the strategic planning, implementation and other aspects of EMILY’s List’s State & Local programs,  including the Political Opportunity Program, which recruits and trains women to run for office at the state and local level.

 

Specific Duties

 

·         Oversee the strategy, planning and implementation of Political Opportunity Program ;

·         Manage and supervise the Political Opportunity Directors and staff;

·         Make recommendations and manage endorsements of candidates at the state and local level;

·         Brief the President, Executive Director, and VP, Campaigns on matters related to EMILY’s List candidates and campaigns;

·         In consultation with the VP, Campaigns, plan and oversee implementation of EMILY’s List short- and long-term political programs as they directly relate to candidates and campaigns;

·         Responsible for all data, analytics and institutional tracking of candidate, campaign, and other relevant Political Opportunity Program information;

·         Oversee the activities of  the state and local training programs for candidates and potential candidates;

·         Working with VP, Campaigns, develop and monitor the budget for state and local campaigns related work and contributions;

·         Make decisions related to the priorities for state and local campaigns;

·         Seek opportunities and develop efforts to increase diversity of candidates, campaign-related staff, and the campaigns team;

·         Provide thought leadership around and opportunities for continued professional development and training of campaigns team and state and local candidates;

·         Serve as point of contact for key external vendors, contractors and other stakeholders;

·         Work closely with the Executive Director, VP, Campaigns and other Senior Directors on relationship building with incumbents and engagements with newly elected officials;

·         Collaborate internally with all departments to ensure free flow of information and ideas;

·         Maintain outreach and strategic partnerships with state and local progressive and women’s organizations;

·         Acts as a spokesperson for EMILY’s List when necessary;

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

The Sr. Director Campaigns, State & Local must have at least seven years of campaign and electoral experience, extensive managerial experience, and a strong interest in electing pro-choice Democratic women to office.  The Sr. Director Campaigns, State & Local should have strong communication and cognitive skills, and an ability to assess candidate races and implement political programs. Candidates must know how to manage a budget. Creativity is a plus.
