Description

Field Organizers will work to mobilize Virginia Democrats to take an active interest in issues that face our state. Located in and around the Richmond, Hampton Roads, and Northern Virginia areas, Organizers will work in reaching out to and engaging dedicated activists as well as those new to political engagement. Field Organizers will build a strong volunteer community whose shared interest in ongoing political activism and responsibility will motivate them to continue organizing and growing outside of this program. Organizers will work with Regional Directors to hit and exceed weekly and long-term targets.

Sample Job Duties

  • Identify Core Regional and State Issues: Through high traffic canvassing, door-to-door canvassing, phone calling, and other methods of outreach, Organizers will identify community members who are passionate about specific Democratic issues and recruit them as volunteers.

  • Recruit Volunteers to Action:  Field Organizers will work with volunteers to mobilize various actions. These actions include but are not limited to: canvassing door-to-door, making phone calls, utilizing Twitter and other forms of social media, hosting house parties, and/or calling representatives to show support of various democratic issues and interests.

  • Facilitate and Oversee Events and Actions:  Organizers will be present and helpful in facilitating every aspect of any events or actions in which their volunteers participate. Examples of actions include coaching and proof-reading any Letters to the Editor or Facebook posts, helping to plan and run educational house parties, comprehensive follow-up when volunteers have called their representatives or participated in social media responses, etc.

  • Develop Leaders:  Organizers will work with all interested volunteers, making sure to identify and progress any potential Super Volunteers, teaching them any organizing skills they may need to continue organizing their communities after this program has ended.

  • Data:  Organizers will keep accurate and up-to-date data using the Voter Activation Network (VAN) regarding identified volunteers and supporters, any volunteer leadership, any and all actions and events, and other information that could be useful for future organizing efforts.
