Job Title:     Ethics Program Manager                                                    

Washington, DC

 

Purpose:

This position assists the SEIU Ethics Ombudsperson in implementing all aspects of the SEIU Ethics Policies, Code of Ethics, and commitment to a highly ethical culture.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Serves as the chief aide to the Ethics Ombudsperson in the management, implementation and development of evolving program for ethics compliance and ethical culture; has particular responsibility for advancing core values and ethical culture throughout the organization.  In that capacity may

  • Manage the implementation of online ethics training for all SEIU international officers and staff;  endeavor to build capacity in SEIU affiliates to administer training at the local level; ensure that required training and activity reports are generated punctually and accurately, implementing additions and changes as needed; and analyze training data to support program modifications;
  • Represent the ethics program in new employee training at the International and interface with department heads, program leads and senior staff  at the International, including in Finance, Human Resources, Data and Technology, Member Leaders in Action, Organizational Equity and Inclusion, Leaders in Action for Justice, and Communications and Media, to infuse ethical culture into the organizational practices of the union;
  • Develop relationships with the leadership and ethics liaisons in SEIU affiliates and build their capacity to strengthen the ethical culture and ensure ethics compliance in their locals;
  • Serve as the face of the ethics program in meetings, orientations, trainings, conferences and other occasions at the International and local levels;
  • Proactively research new technologies, innovative tools and methodologies and cloud-based platforms to advance work in compliance, culture building, ethical leadership development, learning management systems, database tools, project management and work collaboration tools;  
  • Serve as a resource for innovation and improvements in ethics program; confer with outside ethics experts, local leaders, ethics liaisons, and others as needed;
  • Develop, improve and deliver range of resources for affiliates, including self-assessment tools and interactive learning curricula and modules for ethical culture framework, core values, compliance requirements, and ethical leadership;
  • Coordinate annual and regional ethics conferences, including managing logistics, promoting participation, and working with Ethics Ombudsperson and finance department as requested on conference structure, content and follow-up;
  • Conduct annual survey of ethics activity in affiliates, including working with affiliate staff, analyzing scorecard data, developing individual reports, analyzing and reporting  appropriate data for Ethics Ombudsperson and annual report to SEIU’s governing board;
  • Facilitate the systematic development of learning communities for sharing best practices, information, knowledge and resources;
  • Leverage google drive applications to improve data management system and to share  resources, curricula and tools;
  • Analyze benchmarking metrics on ethical culture; and
  • Network with and serve as spokesperson for the ethics program with other ethics professionals, nonprofits and academics in DC area.

Direction and Decision Making:

Reports to the Ethics Ombudsperson and works independently under her direction.

 

Education and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university; five years or more of experience in program management or development, or combination of education and experience that results in the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

 

  • Strong organizational skills and administrative experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage time productively
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • Ability to work well with individuals and in teams
  • Ability to think creatively about building and strengthening culture over a broad and diverse international organization
  • Demonstrated skill in IT as applied to database development and maintenance, tracking systems, research, and web-based learning and discussion sites
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to conduct research using both academic and empirical sources 
  • Discretion regarding sensitive and confidential information and interactions
  • Some understanding of financial reports, budgets and accounting methods helpful
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies, adult learning theories and tools helpful
  • Familiarity with tools like whiteboard animation, podcasts and video helpful
  • Candidates also should have:
  • Passion for justice for workers
  • Commitment to high ethical standards
  • Familiarity with labor unions helpful

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office setting with some travel and irregular hours.
