Faith Outreach Specialist


Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) is seeking an individual to work in its Washington, D.C. office as a member of its Field Department to lead faith outreach and coordination. The Faith Outreach Specialist will promote AU to religious leaders, communities, organizations, and supporters, and work with AU staff and leadership to meet our organizational goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with a broad spectrum of faith leaders and coalition partners including those with diverse perspectives and minority communities
  • Managing and developing AU’s religious leaders’ network and database
  • Coordinating with AU staff and volunteers to identify supportive religious leaders
  • Assist local chapters with faith outreach in their respective geographies
  • Developing and leading faith outreach trainings across the country
  • Promoting the growth of AU’s online presence and activism among faith communities
  • Representing AU in the media, at gatherings, conferences, speaking engagements, and trainings on church-state separation issues and advocacy
  • Developing engagement materials specifically for congregations, communities of faith, faith-based organizations, and religious leaders

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • Bachelor's degree and three to five years of non-profit and/or grassroots organizing experience within communities of faith, preferably involving church-state separation or other civil liberties and civil rights issues
  • Ordained faith leader with knowledge of various faith traditions and an existing network of faith leaders preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to the protection of civil rights and civil liberties
  • Experience with public speaking, organizing, training, and coalition-building
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter and team player
  • Willingness to travel
  • Experience working with database or project management online systems preferred

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience.  Americans United for Separation of Church and State offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
