Position Summary:

LEE’s Organizing Leadership team is responsible for building and sustaining LEE’s approach to developing member leadership around collective action.  The OL team develops members by creating pathways for preliminary engagement with organizing work both digitally and in person, and then building the intermediate and advanced skills members need to be effective drivers of regional organizing campaigns. In 2019, the Organizing Leadership team seeks to further scale organizing supports across the country through significantly increased use of social media, online learning, digital engagement and online resources.

The Manager, School Organizing Fellowship (SOF) will support implementation of the school organizing fellowship, a program designed to enhance key organizing skills of members. School Organizing Fellows attend a National Organizing Workshop, supplemental regional trainings, and monthly coaching conversations with LEE staff. By the end of the fellowship, members are asked to complete one organizing cycle with a policy win on their campus. The Manager will work with the Director, School Organizing Fellowship to bring this program to scale in all regions and leverage best practices and resources in the fellowship across LEE’s organizing platform. Today the fellowship serves teachers and members working in schools; working with the Director, SOF the Manager will lead the expansion of the program to support parents and guardians, as well as other adults within classroom communities. 

Position Location: Flexible

Travel Requirements: 30 - 40% travel required.

Responsibilities:

  • Program management, including recruitment, onboarding, execution and evaluation of the School Organizing Fellowship, in collaboration with the Director, School Organizing Fellowship
  • Develop tools and training in support of regional organizing needs
  • Deliver high-quality facilitated content and facilitate key trainings to build skills of School Organizing Fellowship cohort members
  • Provide coaching to cohort members to increase their effectiveness as organizers
  • Support management of partner relationships for the School Organizing Fellowship
  • Collect and analyze data to ensure the fellowship experience leads to many members having impact while in the classroom, and many engaging in volunteer organizing through LEE’s Regional Strategy Team (RST) organizations upon completion of the fellowship
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Four years of professional experience, with three years of relevant experience including at least two years experience as a teacher/school leader and one year professional or volunteer experience in community organizing or similar
  • Demonstrated ability to work in close partnership across multiple teams
  • Highly effective communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to accurately track metrics and progress to goals efficiently and effectively
  • Excitement about working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and ability to demonstrate strong flexibility and an eagerness to develop and change as LEE continuously learns how to best achieve impact for students
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion
  • Deep passion for educational equity and belief in LEE’s mission and theory of change

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience organizing around education issues
  • Experience in politics, organizing, or civic engagement and/or non-profit organizations including 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4)
  • Experience as an adult coach/facilitating adult learning and leadership development
